I’m done with Topaz Photo AI until this issue is addressed in a future update. I’m advising others to do the same.
Without question, the “Improve Topaz Photo AI” option box, placed just above the save button, has got to be one of the worst decisions ever made by Topaz engineers. In an otherwise excellent program, why are users forced to see this highly invasive option? I would be curious to know how many users have accidentally clicked this box, or thought they deselected it, and unknowingly uploaded an image to Topaz.
Honest question for Topaz Engineers: why can’t we fully remove the option/box within settings so we never have see it in the program?
IMO, if Topaz needs more photos to analyze and improve the program, they can take their own pictures or just download free pictures online. Placing a button that could easily trick users into uploading photos to Topaz inadvertently is wrong and feels sleazy.
And because of this, I will NOT be renewing my subscription to any Topaz products until this box is removed! Which is a shame since I paid for the suite a year ago and really enjoyed it up until this happened. I wonder if others will do the same?
I agree with you, that is highly invasive and so easily clickable. That should not be an option easily clickable. If anything it should be in the settings window disabled by default with confirmation declaring they will be using the images for and confirming with you or not if you are sure you want to give them the images to use to improve their app. Also if you do have it enabled, it should always alert you that you are about to submit images to them in case you forget its enabled, if they even want to keep that feature and if there are users who would like to help improve the app by basically releasing images to them…
I haven’t renewed my subscriptions since they last expired in 2022, so I didn’t know this was a thing for the new photo AI. Glad I didnt renew it, I haven’t seen any improvements in the image quality yet, to justify spending more (even gigapixel 7 from my test, got worse), the only noticeable image quality I have observed was with video ai with their new iris model, it does improve the faces in videos. Just, not enough for me to consider upgrading yet. Maybe next year if they improve enough I will and they don’t have the uploading button of personal images so easily clickable or by default for photo AI or any product.
I also couldn’t agree more with the points you made. It’s a shame Topaz has turned a blind eye to this issue or simply chooses to ignore it all together, despite the numerous privacy concerns expressed by users. Why they don’t quickly address it is beyond me and enough to walk away from the program. IMO - it’s a terrible business move on their part, but clearly they don’t care.
