Hi, I’m trying to improve some old videos of my drawings, which are about 16 years old. They’re generally 640 x 580. Here’s a photo comparison between the original and the 4K upscaled image with Proteus v4 auto settings:
The image is clean, quite sharp I think, but the problem is that since these are raster drawings where you can see the pixels, I’d actually like to be able to maintain the authenticity of the pixel, without smoothing it. When it’s zoomed in like this, it’s fine:
But if you see the drawing zoomed out, you can’t see the pixels anymore; they’re too smoothed. How can I make sure you can clearly see the original lines?
PS: Here’s the link to my video of improved drawing with Vai for those who are curious My first video on a channel I created just for drawing
You have a wonderful talent. To have created these drawings in MS Paint is very impressive. I can’t help you regarding the pixel smoothing other than to suggest that you post your link here and a message to the Topaz Video AI forum and see if you get some help there.
Thank you, that’s very kind! Indeed, thanks to your response, I just realized that I was in the wrong forum. I wanted to post it on the AI video forum.
I edited it, I think I moved it to the right forum
Yes, that’s a better place to put your request. I would leave it for a few weeks or a month and if you don’t get a response then wait until there is a new Video AI update, leave it for a few days and then post a request for help and a link to this page on that new updated forum page. Most people check the updated program versions so you will have a better chance that your request is seen. You never know you may find somebody with a similar interest, a kindred spirit so to speak.
Great, if that works better for your workflow and needs I would say use that then. Video AI and our models are ideal in a lot of situations but might not be in this situation.
yes, for once I really thought that proteus v4 would have a better rendering than any online upscaling platform. I was impressed by vmake, but I think it’s only for my drawing videos which are quite specific. in any case, it’s still paid to upscale to 4k on their site. I’m still loyal to vai for these drawing videos. and I have a small improvement by first passing the video in virtualdub with a filter called “bilateral” (it removes some artifacts).
