I apologize on the delay to respond. I’ve been out of office.
Can you clarify what you mean by switching models in 4 more days? Are you referring to Wonder and Standard Max? These two models will be available in the Topaz Gigapixel studio version for our founding members.
It may be easier to speak with our support team directly (support@topazlabs.com) about your account specifically and how it impacts your current plan.
I have no issues with a subscription plan. My >only< worry would be how Gigapixel (or whatever it will be absorbed into) becomes. I used Topaz AI for years but only stumbled across Gigapixel this past year and find it far far better, plus the AI stuff is pretty amazing for “fixing” issues, adding detail in the upscale process. Love it. Handling multiple images is far far better in Gigapixel than Topaz AI which became a buggy mess near the end.
So I hope it’s not dumbed down. I gave bloom a try for a month or two, decent AI, but came away preferring Gigapixel, even with inferior results, simply due to (a) images are private and (b) cleaner, easier to deal with interface. That online UI was the worst and lacked basic stuff (like deleting).
So basically I’m pleading, don’t mess with the basic functionality of GigaPixel once it gets sucked into a larger package. It’s really THE one perfect Upscale product here.
The new Topaz Gigapixel will still be a separate application because, it’s available either on its own or part of the Topaz Studio which, is a set of seven applications grouped together in a bundle
I’m slightly confused. When I opened up Gigapixel AI it gave me two different updates. I updated to 8.4.4 and then it also said ‘open Topaz Gigapixel’ which preceded to download and install this NEW Gigapixel 1.0.1, so now I have two apps installed. As I’m now understanding it, the 1.0.1 version is the subscription model? I don’t have a subscription, and quite frankly, I don’t plan on getting one for now, so how long will this 1.0.1 app function without subscription?
I had to double check that it didn’t automatically sign me up for a subscription and it doesn’t appear that it did.
Do I just uninstall this app and go back to using the stand-alone 8.4.4 version?
I had the same thing happen except my new version, called just Gigapixel, was 1.0.0 . Now it wants to update to 1.0.1 and I get an error that it can’t write to the directory. I changed the folder to remove read only but it just comes back. I found the download and will uninstall 1.0.0 and install 1.0.1.
Interesting. Mine installed just fine, but I’m not sure how long that version will work without making me create a subscription, so I’m thinking about just uninstalling Gigapixel 1.0.1 altogether and going back to Gigapixel AI 8.4.4 entirely. My question was based around it automatically signing me up for a subscription or something that I didn’t want to purchase.
I just updated to Gigapixel 8.4.4. Will I forever keep seeing the "New Topaz Gigapixel button on the top right corner? I extended my yearly free updates a few weeks ago and intend to stick with the legacy model going forward. I already pay for enough software subscriptions and the 8.4 series works just fine for my uses.
What happens if you roll back to the prior release 8.4.2? Does that go away?
Based on the Changelog (top of thread) were there feature fixes you needed for your system to work using 8.4.3-4? If not… The new Studio models & features weren’t added to the perpetual products.
I just updated to this version and it freezes on Detecting faces (which I have turned off). Trying to find the previous version that I installed just a couple of days ago.
Same here, and I’m 100% sure we’re not alone. Years ago, Adobe switched to subscription-only models. This gave a boost to sales for Serif, the creators of Affinity Photo, Designer and Publisher. Great alternatives for Adobe software for 90% of the users. I’m glad I bought Gigapixel AI. I will never pay a monthly fee for software I don’t use all the time. When will software companies start to understand that ‘software as a service’ is horrible.
