appreciate your feedback msh411 - if you’re using the beta version, the main release updates like v7.3.1 would not show up in that version since these are two separate builds.
Would the team please add the rel. version number to the UI at upper left so that it’s always visible?
Thanks!
It’s difficult to know if we are on the current version if it’s hidden in a Help menu and we have to go hunting. (I’d say “and foraging” but I get so exhausted looking for the version number I don’t even have the energy to eat after doing so …).
I really can’t guess any reason why it wouldn’t be up there adjacent to the “branded,” annual 7. It cannot be an aesthetics rationale b/c the too wide double settings panels at right are unsightly and inconvenient (and impinge into the image workspace area in both PAI and GAI) and they remain.
OK guys I’m starting to get confused/upset here. Which is better, Photo Ai or Gigapixel? Where is your product comparison? I feel like they should be one, and not two separate things, and I can’t pay for both so I am not sure what to do anymore. What make them different and worth paying separate for?
I feel Photo AI makes a good job on restoring ‘not so small faces’ (at least for me), but a bad job upscaling the rest ot the imag, for which I understand Gigapixel would work better?
For my own use, if I primarily want to upscale I use GAI (for smaller images the Recovery model is terrific!). To process images with sharpening and denoising and face recovery I use PAI. All the other features (Remove, Exposure, Color Balance, Contrast, Cropping, etc.) I handle in Ps as features native to Ps because I use PAI (& GAI) as a plugin to Photoshop.
We’ve put together a quick overview of Photo AI and Gigapixel here on this page that you can check out.
Let me know if you still need to learn more. I’ve seen users having both for different reasons. But I tend to see photographers use both whereas artists or designers lean towards Gigapixel.
My idea was that because AI is not very good upscaling images, i probably could do that in GPX, and then the rest like denoise and face-recover in AI. My plan was to pass one image with people to both progrmas and then maybe blend them in PS to put together the background and the faces. But thats was my point, I didn’t want to but GPX just to see it that would work, and I can’t test it because I used to own it before AI and stopped paying for it after that.
Maybe I’ll try another email just to see if it’s worth it, thanks.
(I am wondering still, why two separate programs and not all of that together, I thought initially AI was meant to replace GPX)
Nope, I can’t see it, Esther. I’m using dark mode, so it may be covered by darkness (or, as the famous author once wrote, it may be in the Heart of Darkness!). Just like the tab labels were that was making them invisible.
Typically Topaz products place the version numbers at upper left so that’s where I was looking for it. Now that I’m consciously looking up right I still don’t see it.
I thought Photo AI still puts the vers. # at upper left. Now, I’ll have to check… I just looked. I don’t see it in PAI either. If it’s there it’s invisible in dark mode. Any reason it can’t be upper left near the annual rel. # and in a brightness (or whiteness) that is visible in dark mode? Thx again!!!
When you refer to “AI” what is it you are talking about? What product/software is that? Is that what you mean by PAI (Photo AI)? Or is that a Ps (like Firefly) or other feature?
I definitely do different blending and masking and use a variety of ‘tools’ as part of my workflow in Photoshop. Sounds like you do too. But - just so you know - I work on single images at a time (in case that has any impact on your info gathering process). I don’t use AutoPilot anything and I don’t batch process large quantities of images. Each image I produce is a unique mini masterpiece that I craft Not a crank 'em out by the 1,000’s with like settings desirous of time-savings process.
Yeah, I don’t know about and can’t speak to the product bifurcation motivations and/or roadmap. I’m just a ‘mere’ user. The product management folks at Topaz could articulate that for you. They are all very nice. I think I see that Esther has already pointed you to some differentiations b/wn the products that’s posted online.
Hi, when I launched Topaz G it said the file was damaged and I should move it to the trash. I came here to download the file again, which I did, and now it’s saying that it’s waiting for other software to install to complete but there isn’t anything installing. It’s stuck. Help!
Seems Gigapixel still keeps coming back like an un-flushable floater after you close it.
Anyone else also experiencing that behaviour in this update?
I’m a bit reluctant myself about sending logs and stuff as I’m running things in a VM (don’t want to taint the results with comments like “that’s not how it’s supposed to run”) but it should be fairly easy to reproduce as I know I’m not the only one it happens to.
Edit - it just came back a second time. In the previous version it only came back once and then stayed down after closing it again.
Edit 2 - and a third time… Hats off to the devs - you have created eternal life!
Edit 3 - tried a different approach this time - went File → Exit instead of just closing the window. GAI came back - again!
When I purchased Photo AI it was because they were saying that the standalone apps were dead and not going to receive further updates.
I don’t keep up on all the latest topaz news so recently when I paid for a photoai upgrade I didn’t even consider looking in to the standalone apps.
Now I have some particularly difficult images to upscale and PhotoAI isn’t doing the job. Looking into it I see there is in fact a new version of gigapixel but I will have to pay to upgrade that as well because the algorithms are different /better than what’s in Photo AI.
Very deceptive business practices from this company.
I decided to try and uninstall Gagapixel completely with “AppCleaner 2”. Then I trashed all the “plugins” that had anything to do with Gigapixeel in my Photoshop Plugins folder. Then downloaded and reinstalled the latest Gigapixel 7.3.1 …and that did the trick. It’s working again.
I;ve tried the all-in-one Photo AI and don’t like it. I’m continuing to use AI DeNoise, AI Sharpen, and AI Gigapixel separately in Photoshop. The settings and adjustments are more familiar to me and I like the results better.
