'Focus Fix' speeds things up?

I don’t understand the relationship between the Focus Fix and other enhancement parameters. (I am using an RTX 4070 TI 12 GB).

Example: I ran a 90 minute film using Proteus with manual settings the the processing time was 90 minutes.

I then added Focus Fix (Normal) to the Proteus settings and the processing time dropped to 60 minutes, 1/3rd less.

Have I stumbled upon some kind of ‘cheat’ or are the Proteus effects being compromised/diminished?

Thanks - Dave

Focus fix essentially reduces resolution/ scales the source video down before upscaling/enhancing.

So, yes it’s not surprising that this speeds thing up.

It’s mainly for videos that have been upscaled using standard filters. But also it’s for anything that’s out of focus—I just haven’t had great results with it for those kinds of videos.

i actually use it to ‘denoise’ very noisy 70s-90s movies (in addition to Proteus). the loss in detail due to the downscale is for that application not really relevant due to the source material not having much detail anyway. it’s very effective and fast for that purpose

I don’t like detail loss and is the reason I rarely use it.
