Feedback | Super Focus Results

When I first tried “Super Focus”, I was given the option of liking or disliking the results and of sending in the image. I elected to pass but later thought that because it was so terrible, I should share it. The out of focus moon looks like a clock now.

Hello,

Super Focus is a generative tool, so the AI can be wrong sometimes. If Super Focus works for the rest of the image, you can remove the moon from the selection so it’s not affected. This image might not be for Super Focus altogether, you can also try Sharpen.

Thank you for flagging!

Thanks for the reply. I tried Sharpen first as that is what the app suggested. It too was unacceptable but thanks for the suggestion.

If you want, you can write us at help@topazlabs.com and share the original image with us. We can try the different tools to see if it’s possible to enhance this image without creating issues to the moon. I would think that just excluding it from Super Focus would be a good solution, especially is the moon is not the main subject.

Thank you,

I’ve also noticed a severe colour distortion, and plastic looking faces. I never use it for this reason. The more out of focus it is, the worse the effect. I took this photo, which is mostly in focus, and the undesired effect is present.
This is using V2, V1 is much better, but not as effective, and still has the unwanted colour shifts.

I’ve recorded a video to show you how I would recover this image. I get great results. This is not a good candidate for Super Focus.

Hey Musterion,

Thanks for the reply. Topaz support informed me that AI creates the “improved” image. Obviously, the result you get is not an enhancement of YOUR IMAGE but a newly AI generated image which may or may not match. I can see why you do not use it.

th

Super Focus is an AI generated tool. This is the expected result from using it on a photo that is not meant for that. If you see the video I posted above you’ll see how to correctly use Photo AI in this case and get natural results.

Super Focus can be very good and useful in certain cases where the normal tools are not powerful enough

I have been using SuperFocus very often, but it is unclear how this will evolve.
For wildlife picture, V1 works better, as V2 is creating very evident non realistic patterns even when it is used with a low %. An example below; left to right original, V1, and V2 at 30%.
It is clear V1 is the best result, and you can see below the buzzard’s eye that V2 is creating a non realistic result.

In the evolution of Super Focus I would hope to see a way to regulate intensity (ranging from “lower than V1” up to V2) and not only opacity.

Hope this helps!!
Regards

Thanks so much for sharing your feedback and the example. It’s really helpful to see these side-by-side comparisons, especially for use cases like wildlife photography where detail realism is critical.

We’ve added this thread to an ongoing development ticket our team is tracking for Super Focus improvements and similar suggestions. Your idea about expanding intensity control beyond just opacity is a great one, and we’ll make sure it’s included in the internal notes for the team to review.

Appreciate you taking the time to share this with us!

I am adding this in here, since it’s about SuperFocus results:

Just like the outstanding work you’ve done with faces, there are several key hires characteristics that need vast amounts of work. Hair textures is one characteristic. Hand forms, nail forms, hand textures and nail textures need a lot of improvement. Background geometric patterns should be a really easy thing for computer driven AI fixing, but it is absolutely horrible. Certain key body image things like knee, ankle, wrist and elbow bending also need a lot of work. The same way you let us turn off parts (areas) of the image enhancement, it would be nice to isolate the face from SuperFocus and just let the regular facial enhancement programming work. If you use SuperFocus, though, it won’t let you use/adjust the facial enhancement (Recover Faces) feature. For so many things the Photo AI program in general and SuperFocus in specific are really amazing, but it isn’t helping me where I think I need it based on the briefed items above
