Feature Request | Add Denoise & Sharpen Strengths Back To Preferences

“Remove Noise” options are currently “Normal” and “Strong”; please add “Weak” so that user can eliminate haloing. “Sharpen” options are currently “Standard” and “Strong”; please add “Weak” so that user can have more control of final image

We have just added updated “Normal” and “Strong” Remove noises options (non-RAW) to the app as public beta options, and we will be updating the “Standard” sharpen option in the coming months. Our goal with both the “Normal” and “Standard” models is to provide users with a lot of control on the final image like you describe. If our app is not meeting that standard on your images, we would love to hear more about your use cases, and – if you are able to share – see them either here or on our Dropbox. In particular, if you find that the new “Normal v2” (beta) Remove Noise option released this week is still not giving enough control, we have a dedicated thread for feedback.

Why no autopilot sharpen Strength setting in the preferences? I need the “weak, normal, more, etc.” to vary the strength of the Sharpen for Autopilot. Right now in 3.3.1 it is WAY too strong. Only lens blur2 looks good with skin (everything else sharpens all the skin causing white dots everywhere instead of focusing on the edges of things) blur2 is pretty good but still too strong for the auto. I want to be able to turn it down. My last “trustworthy” version was TopazPhotoAI-3.1.3 where I could tailor it and trust that 95% of it would come out like I want it. I have to go back to that one until I have more consistency. The is the autopilot choice of Strong and is too much. Even the Blur2 autopilot is too much at a strength of 60. I do love the product though. Keep up the good work. I am hoping for a consistent level of sharpening and noise removal. At least with the strength levels in the preferences, I can adjust it. I hate having to fear an upgrade if I have a photoshoot coming up.

Does this mean I need to downgrade to 3.1.3 if I want to be able to set the Sharpen Autopilot Strength setting? The default is much too strong for me, and I can’t seem to get the “Personalization” to consider more than a handful of images (and that isn’t lowering the default sharpening amount for me)

Would really love to see this setting come back.

How come there is so much noise on this TIF file? What is the original format of this? There is no lens blur and it should not be the AI model to choose. Make sure to put in the original RAW if shot RAW or the original JPEG in Photo AI. All this noise needs to first be removed, before any sharpening is done.

The weak/strong were removed when the personalization was introduced, and the personalization will learn and eventually apply the strengths of what you usually do.

I REALLY liked the “Weak” “Less” “Normal” “More” options in the autopilot preferences for Sharpening and Denoise preferences (in particular). I only see them in the upscale tab. I find those VERY helpful in processing groups of images. Could you bring back those options so we can pre-tweak how strong we want the effects to be? Once I have those tweaked, the autopilot becomes a True Autopilot! (Fingers crossed)

Keep up the great work!!

Yeah, I completely agree. I just came here for the first time to say pretty much the same.

This was removed in versions past 3.2.0 since Personalization was implemented. Make sure to add a vote here as well if you wanted the development team to consider the possiblity of how to get these back!

@gosa you can also add your vote here

Thanks for pointing me here.

I really think it’s important to be able to set a preferred level of sharpening in preferences because the way it is now with us having to train the autopilot by learning from a number (I’m guessing significant) of edits might be handy for people who spend a lot of time on each photo, but for me it kind of defies the whole idea with having an autopilot if I can’t just throw a folder at it and actually get something useful in return. Why is the batch function even included if you can’t use it?

And I’m sorry but the default values when adding sharpening are always way too strong.

So how long do I actually have to spend on an investment that I thought would do the job for me? When will the autopilot have learned if I constantly dial back the numbers (manually)? Are we talking tens (doubtful), hundreds (not probable) or thousands of manual edits?
