Just wondering if anyone has used an external graphics card on a Mac to process videos in Topaz Video?
My $8k Mac Studio gets a sluggish 1fps using Nyx, which is woeful. I’m considering getting the Razor external GPU enclosure and an Nvidia RTX 4090 24GB. Please tell me this will work and turn my Mac Studio into a Topaz processing beast?!

Are you using an M series Mac or an Intel Mac? I do not believe that M series Mac’s can be used with an eGPU, only the Intel Mac systems can. Below is a link to Apple support where they lay out the requirements for this workflow and possible options.
I think it’s still the case that Apple Silicon (M-series) processors don’t work with external GPUs.
I have a Razor enclosure and an RX 5700 XT that I use with a Mac Mini Intel i7 processor. It works fine, but it’s not particularly fast.
A friend just bought a maxx-ed out M5 Macbook Pro. When there’s time, I’ll test some of the Topaz products on it. I’m not hopeful that its performance will beat a high end Intel system with a high end graphics card.
