Education | Workflow Using Photo AI With Lightroom & Photoshop

I raised the issue of not being able to open PSD files from Lightroom around a year ago and simply got a very turse reply saying that the LR plug-in didn’t support the PSD files. A year on and nothing has changed - its very frustrating having to open the file in Photoshop to invoke PhotoAI each time and makes the workflow much more complicated than it needs to be. Is the LR plug-in going to be revised to allow PSD files to be edited directly in PhotoAI without this frustrating work-around?

Hi.

Unfortunately it’s the the same with not being able to save compressed DNG files as Photo AI only saves full sized DNG files

Probably Adobe withholding the information or a licencing issue.

I’ve read your original Topic where you stated you’re trying to send a PSD to Photo AI from Plug-in Extras or tried to create a PSD File and send that to Photo AI via the Plug-in Extras

Forgive me but that sounds a little long-winded way of doing things

Here’s my workaround for RAW, DNG Files and non RAW Files

RAW Files or DNG Files:

  1. Select a DNG Image, Goto > Plug-in Extras > Process with Topaz Photo AI

  2. Apply Enhancements within Photo AI > Export to Adobe LrC

  3. Press Control / Command E to automatically send newly processed Photo AI DNG image to Photoshop

  4. As soon as Photoshop opens I’ll Press Control / Command S to save a PSD back to Lightroom

Non RAW Files:

  1. Select DNG image, Press Control / Command E to automatically send my selected image to Photoshop

  2. Duplicate the Background Layer then Goto File > Automate > Topaz Photo AI

  3. Apply Enhancements within Photo AI > Export to Adobe Photoshop

  4. Back in Photoshop if I don’t want to apply further edits

I’ll either Close the Document / Image to automatically save it as a PSD or Press Control / Command S to save the open Document
/ Image as a PSD

Alternatively use one of the free batch file converters

Hope this helps
