Education | Workaround If Your Machine Does Not Meet Minimum Requirements

Super slow processing.

Seeing crash reports on our side that show your computer only has 4GB of VRAM, and that is under the minimum requirements for Photo AI.

Can you test this until you can get a machine that meets requirements:

  1. Open Photo AI, and before importing any files, go to Edit > Preferences > General
  2. In the AI Processor drop-down, change the Auto to CPU**.
  3. Import a file and process it.

**Using CPU is a workaround, and it will not replace having proper VRAM.

Yes I tried what you suggested and it worked fine.

Your initial reply spoke about my system not having enough vram to support photo ai. Please can you explain why everything before this new update worked fine.

Please can you suggest a fix. ?

Is it possible to back to the previous version ?

Kind regards

Unfortunately, this computer was always under requirements for any Photo AI versions, and on every update, we optimize the app to be faster for computers that do meet the requirements, and we release new features. On each of these updates, the fact that this computer never met requirements will become more and more obvious. Until you get a computer that meets requirements, the best option is CPU, and keep in mind you never experienced the processing speed the app is designed to offer (CPU does not replace proper VRAM, it is only a workaround and will still be slow).

You can force Photo AI to use the CPU as a workaround, and even on prior versions, make sure to use the CPU workaround to make sure the underpowered card isnt used. You can revert to the version of your choice here: Releases - Topaz Community

Ok thanks.

PhotoAI 3.5.0 may produce strange patterns when combining denoising and upscaling.

Steps to reproduce issue:

  1. Step 1
    Open an image

  2. Step 2
    Apply Denoise

  3. Step 3
    Apply Upscale

A strange pattern appears in only one place in the image.
This is not a problem with most images, but there are some images that cause problems.

Topaz Photo AI [v3.5.0] on [Windows]

@etsuro.furutsu seeing on our side that your computer unfortunately only has 4GB of VRAM, and that does not meet the minimum requirements for Photo AI. This will become more and more apparent as you update versions and especially when using memory intensive tools in the app.

You can test forcing Photo AI to use your RAM, and not the underpowered graphic card: Edit > Preferences > General > AI Processor and put it to CPU.

This is only a workaround, and will not change your computer does not meet the requirements, and Upscale is very memory intensive. Any processing on this machine will be slow as well.

Here is the minimum requirements, to look into for your next computer as well  System Requirements | Topaz Photo AI

Software keeps crashing every time import a picture, no matter if it’s a raw or jpeg file. I tried to uninstall and reinstall but still keep happening. I’m using PC.

Hi.

I don’t know if this is the answer you’re looking for but, Windows recently received an update and that could be the causing a conflict

Try removing the Windows Patch and try again

Failing that here’s a link to access previous versions

Here’s the link to contact Topaz Support directly

Topazlabs Support
support@topazlabs.com

Hope this helps

I’ve tried all of these options you provided but still I haven’t be able to use the app. What can I do?

Sorry to hear that didn’t work worth a try

I’d noticed someone else had problems and by removing the Windows Patch Photo AI worked again

I thought yours was a similar issue, did you contact Topaz Support with the link I provided, I’m sure in fact I know they’ll be able to help

Seeing on our side this is your card, UHD 630

Can you make sure to update your driver to the latest and retest @bouchardolivier-3773:
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/776137/intel-7th-10th-gen-processor-graphics-windows.html

Ok I’ll try. So you’re saying my graphic card is too weak?

No not quite but, it is at the minimum requirement

Here’s the link for System Requirements

The card itself only has 0.1 GB of VRAM. The Intel card with this little VRAM is not a card fitfor AI processing. We recommend to have a NVIDIA or AMD card with 6GB of VRAM. Without it, you only have that 0,1GB of VRAM or your CPU to fall back on, and CPU does not replace VRAM.

Make sure to be on the latest driver as a first step, if still issues, you can test forcing CPU: Edit > Preferences > General > AI Processor > CPU.

You saying I have to buy a new graphic card or buy new computer or upgrade by downloading something?

For the driver update, send us this:
How To Obtain Your System Profile (Windows)

and we can send the link to update the driver, that does not cost anything, that is maintenance and updates you should do periodically!

Here is the DXdiag Info:

DxDiag.txt (84.5 KB)

Did you get my dxdiag.txt file?

I see it yes!

There is multiple things happening here:

  1. This system does not meet the minimum requirements for Photo AI, as it only has 12Gb of RAM and the minimum needed is 16GB.
  2. It also only has 0,1GB of VRAM, when the minimum recommended is 6GB.

System Requirements | Topaz Photo AI

You can test forcing Photo AI to use the RAM, instead of the underpowered VRAM, but since the RA is also underpowered, it may still not work. RAM also does not replace VRAM.

  • In the app, Edit menu then Preferences, General, AI processor and out it to CPu. Click Save and retest a file.

Until you can get a computer that has the requirements for RAM and VRAM, this computer is still under requirements and will have slow processing, errors, and crashes.

If you have another machine, send us its System Profile and we can see if its a better fit.
