Education | Workaround For Slow Processing On Underpowered Machine

I just activated Topaz Photo and used the Auto feature to look at a 122MB TFF image. After an hour it was still analyzing. I have a Windows 11 PC with an i5 processor (12th Gen/6 cores) and 16 GB of RAM, and a 2GB GPU. Why so slow? Five minutes I can understand. But an hour and no decision? Hope I didn’t make a mistake getting this app

I can’t say if this is the cause for the lock-up during analysis, but your GPU is well below the minimum requirements for the app. The minimum is 6GB vram for a discrete GPU.

Alan is correct, this machine with 2GB VRAM would be under the minimum requirement for all our apps and would not be a supported machine.

The only workaround would be to force the CPU to be used in Edit > Preferences > General > AI Processor, and set it to CPU. This will not change. This machine is under requirements; it will remain slow, as the CPU does not replace proper VRAM in any way, but it can help until you can get a machine with 6GB VRAM. Slow behavior, errors, and crashes will remain on this underpowered machine.

If that is your only machine, you can contact the support team at support@topazlabs.com for a refund.

I’ll see about upgrading the GPU
