I recently updated to Topaz Photo AI 3.5 (TPAI) on my PC.
Before I updated I could use the “Edit In” option in Lightroom CC to open directly in TPAI but now this function is not working. TPAI will open correctly when launched from Lightroom CC Edit In but the image that was selected in Lightroom will not load into TPAI.
We do not officially support the LR CC as a plugin as it has limitations and can only edit JPEGs as a plugin, not RAW files. Even the JPEG edits needs manual steps, and this video explains how to get the file back: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayjy0l8lDhQ&t=480s
Keep in mind that it is only on the latest LR CC version and will not work with RAW files, and it is why Lightroom Classic is the only LR plugin we support.
Thanks so much for the quick response and very nice you tube video.
Here is what is confusing, I have a slightly different setup on my home office and the LR CC → Topaz Photo AI → LR CC works OK with LR CC 8.2 and TP Photo AI 4.3. I just tried it and it works just fine and have been doing this for several months. But on my work computer when I updated to Topaz Photo AI 4.5 this is now not working?? Hence my confusion.
Since it is not a plugin we support, the behavior is not something we can look into. The video shows a workaround, but it’s still not a plugin we support. We are looking to support this LR version now that Adobe unlocked this option, but this will only work for JPEG/non-RAW files when we do support it. in the meantime, the workflow is to edit in the standalone, export, then import the edited files in LR. Or use LR Classic’s plugin, which we support!
OK thanks. I use the LR CC → Topaz Photo AI → LR CC return functionality a lot so my takeaway is to avoid the TP Photo AI upgrade to 4.5 as long as I can.
