Education | Super Focus Custom Selection Workflow

I do miss the abilty to select areas of an image for Super Focus. I seem to recall that an early version had this option. Currently, applying Super Focus over an entire image will over blow clouds with greens and purples.

Apart from that, Super Focus does a superb job.

Reinstate Area selection please

The process where the whole picture is processed has not changed from v1 to v2. That remains the same. The only difference is the v2 model’s Custom Selection is only available in after the render, that is a limitation of the AI Model. It does not “add” any process time, as the v2 model is much faster, and v2 still processed the whole image even if a custom selection was chosen. Once you have the process done in v2, then find the Edit Selection panel and select the areas you want!

I don’t see how it can not take longer to process a larger area?? (even if it’s faster processing as you say). I would really like to choose the small area I want and have it faster.

Hi.

Super Focus Renders the whole Image that’s the way it works there’s no getting away from it.

Rendering the whole Image first and making selections after is actually an advantage because, if you want to refine your selection or indeed select different parts of your image you can easily without having to sit there and wait while the Rendering is repeated after each refinements or multiple selections.

The only time you’ll have to wait while the image is Rendered is if you select one of the other Focus Boost options or you swap between Super Focus V1 and V2.

I understand and appreciate what you’re asking, you want the ability to Mask the Subject for instance; a Bird and only apply Super Focus to the Bird but, I ask you for example; how many times have you seen the Masking miss part of your Subject which means you’re have to go back and redo it all over again.

Hope this helps

Hello AND-E- I understand Superfocus v2 has to render the whole image first. However, documentation implies there is some ability to “refine” the selection after rendering. I see no such options. The only choices are Post process settings (Strength and Opacity) and Focus Boost (None, Minor, Major). Have selections been completely removed? I have the latest version of Topaz Photo

Yes you are kind of correct you can’t refine the Selection before the image has been Rendered however, as you know Super Focus needs to Render the whole Image and unlike other Enhancements whereby, you apply your Selection first with Super Focus you have the ability to Refine and change your Selection afterwards as well as, Strength and Opacity Sliders

Once the image has been Rendered on the Computer then, Click on the Super Focus Tab within the Layers Stack once more to open the Super Focus options you’ll now see the Selection Options Box which by default says All

Click on the this Box and you’ll now have the option of changing the Selection or Creating a Custom Selection and you can change the Strength and Opacity Sliders.

Hope this helps
