Education | Photo AI vs Gigapixel

I own Topaz Photo. I bought Gigapixel expecting it would do something different. Can someone explain to me what Gigapixel does that photo doesn’t? As far as I can tell it is supposed to help you take small images and make them very big. Doesn’t Topaz Photo do that? As far as I can tell it does and it does it better. Why does this software exist?

You have posted in the wrong forum! This should really be in the latest GPAI forum.
Anyway, to (partially) answer your question. GPAI is a specialist software for users who only want to upscale their images. That’s why it costs way less than TPAI. It has many features that are not in TPAI, most notably the generative models such as Recover and Redefine.

Hmmm. I dunno. It’s not like there’s Photoshop and then Photoshop MAX for when you need BIG pictures. My expectation in terms of photo editing leads me to the conclusion that Topaz Photo and Gigapixel cover very similar ground.

Let me put it another way: how hard would it be for a competitor to simply say, “With our software you need to buy two licenses. This does both for the price of one!”

It’s really up to you. I have the latest versions of GPAI as I am reworking many low-res scans with it and its AI achieves better results than I had got previously with TPAI. I have not updated my TPAI licence as the version I have does an excellent job on sharpening and I can use the built-in denoise function in On1 PhotRaw, my main editing programme.

Hello!

Gigapixel is dedicated to increasing pixel count in still images. This upscaling is intended for printing, textures, artwork, or adding resolution to any pixel-related assets.

Photo AI includes an upscaling tool, but its features center on photography enhancements like denoising, sharpening, and removing objects.

The core upscaling abilities are the same in both applications, with Photo AI having the added benefit of photography centric tools.
