Education | Photo AI or Gigapixel AI?

Hey all, not sure what the difference is between the two beyond one is $199 and the other $99.

Gigapixel 6.3.3 seems to improve my MJ images and upscale them. That’s all i need it for. Nothing more.

Is there any reason to get the Topaz Photo AI if that’s all use it for or would you say stick with Gigapixel?

Also is Gigapixel still getting updates or is it old software that has been replaced by Topaz Photo AI?

Let me know please.

If you do not need deblur/denoise then they are similar function for size enhancement

Gigapixel has not been updated since January despite still being an active subscription. All the AI updates for size enhancement have gone to Photo, so it makes no sense to pay for a Gigapixel sub if they are not updating it.

However if your needs are to do heavy batching on large photosets, Gigapixel has a much better alternate spreadsheet style interface where you can select subsets of images and set subset of settings then batch them all at once. It also has a better quad algorithm viewer which makes for easier comparison as well as some AI algorithms that did not get carried forward.

Photo is technically still in beta even though they call it release it is not at all a stable product. This is why they frequently offer bundles that you can get all the classic AI programs and bundle in Photo at a much lower cost.

Strange they aren’t updating Gigapixel yet they are still selling it at $99

Who’s to say they aren’t planning to do an update later this year?

and only comes with a year of updates unless you renew! So it has been half a year no updates, it would be foolish to subscribe now for updates.

I hear that even though GIGApixel hasn’t had updates since January its still more stable and outperforming than the topaz photo ai. can you confirm this?

Personally i would rather pay $99 even if the thing isn’t getting updates. I dont need anything fancy just a way to improve the image and upscale.

GigaPixel has color noise floor that was removed in Photo AI. Photo AI gives a little more natural result on hifi/std as they dialed back the algorithms for less artifacts. GigaPixel is a more stable tool and a more useable interface especially for large batch jobs. Photo AI has also added a bit more of a depth buffer pop intentionally stretching blurring/sharpening, some like it for 3D photo effect, others dislike it for distorting artistic intent. like it or hate it. Photo AI streamlined to fewer choices for AI algos. Photo AI claim to have updated auto ai/param but think it has gotten worse.

I personally think they should either prorate refund subscriptions if they have no further intent to update but they will probably stick to legalese that did not say how many updates you was entititled too.

Essentially they are moving away from pro and prosumer to consumer market with the new tool.

Got it. So basically get Photo AI instead of Gigapixel as i would be wasting my money on a product that isn’t getting updates when everything i need would be in photo ai anyway, right?

Or both if you wait for a bundle that way when photo is bugged just run giga. I think I paid 360 for 4 tools and renew is cheaper when bundled.

Yes, Photo AI is the only image quality app receiving regular updates. It will eventually completely replace Gigapixel with all the current functionality and then some.

Then I guess you need to present an explanation of why they are still available for sale (DeNoise AI, Sharpen AI and GigaPixel AI) when they are all but confined to the Legacy Bin. I would suspect that people that have bought since Photo AI was released would be really annoyed … and it’s not a question of price.

Pretty simple. Its called Marketing. And they love the green. Like i said before software companies do this all the time. They head into the field offering 2 or 3 related products then they turn around and combine them and sell an all-in-one. Yet they know they have users still using the old stuff. And they know there are some that wont pay $199 but will pay $99. So they leave them on the table but encourage people to get the bigger all in one package by ONLY offering updates on that one and not the old one. Eventually they switch but in the meantime they sell lots of product to the low tier and the high tier

This will be fine, but right now it is annoying to know that GigaPixel still does a better job right now and hopefully they will add a PRO mode so we can keep all of the manual controls currently available in Gigapixel once it is totally replaced.
I’m all in favor of a single program as long as it is greater than all three separate programs and currently, it is not!

I understand, I would feel the same way. We’re working on adding some of Gigapixel’s functionality into the Upscale feature in Photo AI.

Hi, I was told via email support that if i buy the bundle ( gigapixel, and the other two) i will then have in my account a claim link to download topaz photo ai

Has anyone else come across this?

I just want to check before i buy gigapixel bundle. I would hate to buy it and then not see this claim link

Yes, you can claim Photo AI for free if you buy Sharpen AI, Gigapixel AI, and DeNoise AI.

DenoiseAI and SharpenAI also seem to have been abandoned in favour of PhotoAI, no recent updates for either of these products which is very disappointing since I paid the yearly subscription again to receive new updates. I still like to use these as required and in my opinion they can sometimes do a better job in their respective specialties. Same goes for GigapixelAI.

Persoanlly I’d stay with Giga. I’ve just been testing Photo AI and I don’t think it’s anywhere near as good as the seprate apps - but then I would not expect an all-in-one for half the price to match the others. I can see it’d be convenient to have all features in one app, but I get much better, more controllable and quicker results from Gigapixel, DeNoise and Sharpen. Maybe Photo is aimed at an amateur market.

With regards to the comments about lack of updates: ‘more often’ doesn’t necessarily equate to ‘better’. Having worked in the software industry both as a designer and a user, I prefer fewer upgrades that are properly thought out and tested, to frequent upgrades that are not - but unfortunately most companies opt for the latter these days!

Except they have stated the old tools are EOL and TPAI is the future for getting updates and they are no longer updating old tools (even though they still sell/sub).
