Education | Newspaper Photo Editing

Does Topaz AI 3 software work on scanned newspaper photos? I have a website where I post old, scanned newspaper photos, frequently portraits. These scans are frequently blurry and almost always pixelated. Does AI 3 do a decent job with this type of photo? I don’t currently own this software, but am considering purchasing it. I would appreciate some honest opinions. Thanks.

The majority of the AI models in Photo AI are trained on digital imagery. However, we do have many users who work with archival images and newspaper images, and they’ve found success using our tools.

If you’d like to try Photo AI for yourself, you can access our trials from the Topaz Labs Download Page. When you first install the software, you can choose the demo mode. This mode won’t automatically charge you if the application doesn’t suit your needs. There’s no time limit for the demo, but please note that some export features will not be available until the software is purchased. :slightly_smiling_face:

Face Recovery | Additional Ability to Adjust Area of Enhancement

Just to show you what is possible using Photo AI regarding Newsprint photos . I recently helped another forum member to recover a Newsprint item concerning his cousin.

I have been using Photo AI for 20 months or so and the steps I took to restore the picture are pretty basic but require a bit of knowledge on how to use the Topaz software. I would suggest you download the free version of Topaz Photo AI in order to see if you can follow my instructions in my article before you make a commitment to purchasing the software. You won’t be able to save your adjusted pictures on the trial version.

I make reference to a GAUSSIAN BLUR filter in my article which isn’t available on Topaz Photo AI but is available on many other Photo editing software. Affinity Photo 2 is one I can think of. The GAUSSIAN BLUR filter is a huge help in working on these types of pictures even though it is only used very briefly.

I hope this helps you.

I don’t know what experience you have using photo/picture editing software but be clear it can be frustrating and time consuming at times and very rewarding at others. It just requires patience and a good knowledge of the software and time to get good results in the end.

From Robert to Roberta I wish you good luck with your pictures.
