Education | LR Plugin Only Supports Returning A Non-RAW File

Hi there,

Since updating to Topaz Photo, I have noticed that when I use the Lightroom (non-Classic) plug-in, the photo comes into Topaz Photo as a tif instead of an arw. What am I doing wrong please?

Thanks

Hi Sean.

Simple answer, Lightroom (Cloud) doesn’t currently support RAW or DNG Files only Lightroom Classic does.

When you send a RAW or DNG Files from Lightroom (Cloud) to Topaz Photo, the round-trip process involves exporting the image to an external editor.

Since Lightroom (Cloud) doesn’t support plug-ins in the same way Lightroom Classic does, it exports the image as a TIFF or JPEG for editing.

Topaz then returns the edited version as a new TIFF file, not a RAW or DNG.

This is expected behavior because, Lightroom (Cloud) lacks the Plug-in Extras menu that Lightroom Classic uses to send RAW Files directly to Topaz Photo and Topaz Photo, doesn’t currently support writing back to DNG when used with Lightroom (Cloud).

This leaves you with two options either use Lightroom Classic for RAW editing with Topaz Photo or use Topaz Photo as a Standalone Application

Hope this helps

Exactly as And-E mentionned. The behavior with LR was always the same, it cannot edit or return a RAW file.

To use the standalone to do this or use LRC, which has the path to edit RAW files as a plugin (LR does not): File > Plug-in Extras
