I have tried Topa Photo. When it works, it is good. What riles me, though, is that every time I start a new project from scratch, I literally have to wait an hour or more to download models, even though I use it for bird photography. The result is that I now prefer to use my Photo Ai.

No this isn’t normal, this is happening because, during your initial Download and Installation your Internet connection was interrupted this can happen for a number of reasons Slow Internet Speeds, an active VPN, Firewall, Add Blocker or something similar connected to your Antivirus Software.
Basically, the full Application failed to Download correctly
Simply, disabling one or more of the above and then, try Downloading again

Also, I don’t know if you’re aware but, a new Sharpening Model was added to the latest version of Topaz Photo especially for Sharpening Animal Fur and Birds Feathers and that alone is a reason not to revert back to Topaz Photo AI

@jacobus.benecke - Missing models means there is a blocker preventing them from all installing at once. See here steps to do this: Missing Models | Topaz Labs
