Early GUI Design Concept

Yes. This is the main job of the GUI. This is what we need, if there is going to be a GUI change.

My sat receiver uses open pli OS it has a simplified gui by default but when you enable expert settings a shit load of settings and menu items get enabled I always enable the expert settings but daddy who only thinks about its beer and wants to zap will never use the expert settings.

This is how it should be Open Source OS’s understand this Open PLI 9.0 Enigma

Hi Suraj,

Nice new interface with scenes oriented variable enhancements!

Can’t wait to test it!

Great new approach and the UI is much easier to understand than the 4.1.0 version.

Vincent.

First impression is TERRIBLE! Please do not redesign the UI for novices - release a different product with the same engine for the mainstream market like Adobe does with Premiere Elements. PLEASE do not change this UI yet again for current customers. Or you should rename this version to PRO and make the new simplified UI a STANDARD version.

And I agree with the user who wanted to see the encoding live when EXPORTING like it was in v3.

Last thing: Also where’s the product roadmap so we can VOTE on features and see what’s being considered, moved to development, in beta, and released?

I am not going to get into any deep details about this, but essentially and frankly this is horrible. Stop what you are doing please, and go hire a self respecting UIX designer because this UI update is horrendous. Forgetting you just made every single option you would want to use not only a pain to do, not user friendly, and way more work, but it gets to look like the most dull grey generic freeware program you can find these days. No, worse, this looks like some Android project a class had to do at school, it is that bad. Please, no.

You charge around $300 A YEAR for your product. You should not have a UI that freeware laughs at. None of these changes make logical sense in a standard flow with the users having to click all around the screen with popups and pulldowns to do what we already do in a simple place now.

I do like the functionality ideas of the presets and applying those to other videos, certainly would make things easier to pick back up from when a crash occurs or MS decides they want to reboot your pc that updates are paused on (yay).

edit Oh yeah, and like nearly 90% of the users I see in the forums say… fix live preview and add more compatibility for more sets of files. I am finding about 1 in 10 videos I touch now TVAI either just errors trying to export (but the preview goes fine? Splain that one to me) or is not even able to open it.

same as other people here

  • stop please the insanity of developping a new UI… the ridiculous came with the 4.x, as the UI of 3.x was fine. it’s certainly very easy to have 4.0 act the way 3.x was handling previews. everybody can make a mistake, so fix it the right way. not by developping a new useless poorly workflow design / UI which made hundred of pages of comments and complains, until it will run correctly, and then ā€œhoo let’s try a new UI againā€¦ā€

  • for me, VideoAi is and has always been a very simple software. it’s just a video converter. there is an input, which goes trough some model and filter, and the ouput. it’s the video version of gigapixel / PhotoAi.
but it seems some people want it to be a coffee machine, a car, a plane, can buy food too etc …

simple video converter : topaz must spend his time to update the ā€œconverter partā€, and make it good and great, we don’t care about a new UI. just fix the issue on the actual one, and improve the models, the speed, the quality, A REAL TIME PREVIEW (lol).

if at least, the new UI would be an improvement, but it’s not lol…

Remember, we spend all that money every year for better AI models and faster processing, not that stupid UI !!!

Maybe some marketing guru has told you that you need a ā€œcleanā€ interface to avoid scaring off novices. Or maybe you’re thinking a lot of your users are trying to work off 15" laptop screens. So be it. But have an ā€œadvanced userā€ option that expands everything the simple interface is hiding back out to a full control panel.

As it is now, I don’t even like that I have to scroll up and down an ever-expanding RH column as I enable functions. It should be possible to have a panel that displays them all at the same time.

I think these sentiments have been stated above but I’ll add my thoughts anyway.

I let my TVAI subscription lapse a few months ago. Even after v4 came out I was using v3 because the models seemed about the same and the v3 GUI had fewer problems. I’ve been checking all the new releases in demo mode, waiting to see something worth renewing but I haven’t seen it yet. I feel like the v4 GUI has improved a lot and I was thinking to renew again when I got a coupon in my email recently, but this new GUI concept makes me worry about the direction over the next 12 months.

Months ago I would have preferred continued delivery of model improvements using the v3 GUI, I doubt I would have let my subscription expire if that were the case. When the emphasis appeared to move toward debugging a brand new v4 GUI, it seemed like a good time for me to put a pause on my subscription.

I’m getting similar feelings now, I just worry about how much benefit a renewal would have for me if most of the next year will be bogged down fixing yet another saga of GUI bugs.

TVAI is a great product, I personally do not think it needs yet another GUI redesign, so I echo the suggestions above that continued improvement on v4 GUI and better models would make the product most appealing to me.

I feel like topaz has a ton of potential to incorporate Adobe media encoder features like

  1. HDR features
  2. Color encoding like rec709 vs rec2020
  3. Simple lighting and Color grading features like what’s found in CapCut
  4. Ai subject masks
  5. Time interpolation - ex. Optical flow .
  6. User LUTS
  7. text and image overlay

Please reintroduce the LIVE VIEW of the encoded videos DURING EXPORT.
This is of course one of the most necessary features.

While we’re discussing UI and clicks and dropdowns, this is what is happening …Sora

Please stay focused on enhancing videos, not clicks

Thank you!

Edit: I would even prefer to go back to v3 UI if I could get enhanced models and live previews like we had before (echoing others’ comments)

I would prefer to see all the controls in one place, and more of them. One missing feature that is constantly an issue for me is there needs to be an option to stretch the input video to the output video resolution. If I have a PNG sequence from a 4:3 DVD source, I need to be able to get the right aspect ratio. I would stretch 720x480 or 720x576 to 1440x1080 for example. Usually I crop black bars off the edges of 4:3 videos and save them to PNG so they will have a resolution slightly less than the standard ones I just mentioned. I then color correct these in Resolve, and finally bring them into Topaz, but the aspect ratio is wrong without the stretch to fill the output resolution feature.

Have had any issues with color shift in Topaz exports? Also, what do you master in? Off topic. So apologies in advance.

I generally can adapt to UI changes, except when apple made the disastrous decision to completely redo everything and gave us X. They lost me and many other pros for that, although I eventually learned to edit with X as I do with any NLE. Specifically though, I probably will miss not seeing the complete toolset together. I may want to see the results of different combinations of settings and have to switch menus over and over again would be a waist of time. And that adds up. If VAI is trying to be a color grading software I don’t think it’s going to fly, especially for pro users who already have advanced tool sets that we use. Can you catch up to DR, Baselight, Lumetri (Adobe is developing major upgrades to PP), colourlabai…? If you can more power to you. How far are you down the road on scene by scene adjustments? Because that would be a phenomenal step forward despite people despite some of the complaints here. I get it though. A good clean image is what we are all looking for, essentially. But, I think that not pushing forward with scene by scene or shot by shot enhancement capabilities would be a mistake because somebody will eventually do it. And pros like me would use it. Thanks for your efforts!

I use Virtualdub a lot, and Resolve a lot. I have seen color issues in Topaz in the past.

The devs would have to find a way to show TIFF files (preview video is then created from the encoded images) without performance penalty associated with such huge image files, the bigger the higher video resolution is. I wonder if BPG (HEVC derived) format would show any promise without hurting the quality too much?
There’s a Github for the libbpg, too.

As long as to do to improve:
Let Tveai integrate the support of BMD decklink and AJA cards for a visualization on a TV (large screen). Best possibility of adjustment before production. In addition, as the Future the SDR to HDR is planned for the future, as long as you have an HDR TV, it will be better than with an NVIDIA with an HDMI output.
It’s just an idea.
Good Luke.

I don’t understand what we’re trying to solve here. Quit changing the UI please, you’ve already made it convoluted enough.
