H there, my Topaz gigapixel software is extremely slow on my macBookPro with Apple M1 max. Extremely means storage, i could make myself a coffee for each picture and I also can’t automize 50cm long side size and 300dpi. it always goes back to the max size and 100something dpi after each picture. also the fan on my macbook is getting loud. I use your software as a photoshop app. Should I use megapixel maybe better as standalone software without photoshop, is it better than? best Thomas
Hi Thomas.
Gigapixel’s AI models will demand a lot from your max out your GPU, especially with the new Generative or High-Fidelity models hence the Fan noise and heat it’s just your Mac’s way of saying “I’m working hard on this for you.
Also, Gigapixel AI will sometimes resets custom DPI settings when used as a Photoshop plugin. It tends to default to its original resolution and size.
Using Gigapixel as a Standalone Application gives you more control over output settings like DPI and dimensions and it’s less likely to override them.
So yes, using Gigapixel AI as a standalone app is generally better because, it’s one less major Memory intensify Application open at the same time and it’s better for any performance issues, especially on a Mac with M1
Hope this helps
Not so, according to Topaz Labs as of GAI 6.0. The link is a TL document showing the performance improvements due to native Apple silicon support (i.e., not running through Rosetta).
Thanks for the correction I have amended my reply accordingly
Hello Thomas,
This sounds like an issue with running generative models on images with a starting resolution larger than 1024 px on the longest side. Cloud rendering is recommended when using Generative models on images that are larger than 1MP. If you are having this problem with images less than 1 MP, or with the Core models.
