Discussion | eGPU on MacOS

This is a long shot, but I’m curious if any Mac users have ever tried an eGPU to help accelerate Photo AI speeds. Something like this:

I’m trying to figure out the more cost effective way of getting more speed out of Photo AI without spending $4K on a Mac Studio M3 Ultra. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Kick the developers colective a…es so they’ll figure out a way much more eficient way? :innocent:

Haha, well, they can only use what the hardware can deliver and Apple didn’t make the M-series silicon ultra-GPU centric. But I have zero understanding of how much effort Topaz puts into optimizing their software for M-series silicon. Maybe all their focus is on accelerating work on Windows machines with Nvidia GPUs? I don’t know. I’ve never seen them write about their efforts on M-series silicon, using the GPU/NPU for accleration, etc. Have they ever shared anything?

Officially we do not support eGPUs, but I have seen users successfully use them in some instances, hopefully some users from our community can give further insight regarding this hardware

Thanks for the official answer. Given how critical GPUs are for this product, supporting eGPUs would be a nice addition to the product.
