Discussion | Color Profiles In Photo AI & Lightroom Classic

When I use Photo AI as a plugin in LR Classic and send a photo to Photo AI I was getting a complete shift in the colors, making editing in P AI useless. I asked support about this issue and they had no answers for me at all. I finally figured out that sending the photo out in ProPhoto RGB was the problem. If I send the file out as a TIFF in Adobe RGB (1998), the colors are correct. It seems like this should be a pretty well known issue unless it’s just particular to me.
My only question is how does this affect the quality/color of my image when it’s sent back to LR classic?

Hi Mikeaff.

Simple answer No

TIFF Files are 16-bit so, will retain the full Colour information and quality for your Image no different than, sending an image to Photoshop and back

In fact if you use the Standalone version of Photo AI and Import an 8-bit JPEG and Export it as a 16-bit TIFF File Photo AI will automatically convert the 8-bit JPEG into a full 16-bit Image with increased Colour Dynamic Range using the built-in Topaz JPEG to RAW function

Hope this helps

Hello Mike,

Seeing the last message we sent you on the 14th and we got no reply back from you since:

Are these RAW files? If it is, it’s possible that the RAW file was modified with another program. Photo AI cannot see changes made to the RAW files and will read the file exactly like it was shot in the camera. For us to be able to test this, I will need to have the original file. Please send it to me via Dropbox so I can test.

from your message to Andy Above, I can see you had ProPhoto color setting, whereas Photo AI displays in sRGB for TIFF files. Once the file is back in LrC, you can change the color profile. If its a RAW file, Photo AI will display the file as shot in camera.
