Discussion | Apple M1 Max VS M4 Pro

I currently use an M1Pro. But have considered upgrading to an M1max 64gb 2TB or an M4pro 48gb. Topaz is literally the only piece of software I own that does not run like a dream on my M1pro, 16gb.

Has anyone compared their previous M1max to a new M4pro? I have found no comparisons using Topaz anywhere on YouTube or the web.

For CPU performance the m4 will likely win hands down in about all scenarios.
For GPU performance it might be a different story.
Of course the newer cores will be faster but the shear amount of cores (32 GPU cores on the M1 Max vs 20 on the M4 Pro if I’m not mistaken) will be hard to beat.
But then Apple claims to also have considerably better Neural Engine speed on the m4…

If power efficiency is an issue and for most normal tasks go for the M4.

For video editing there are two video encoding /decoding engines on the max chips vs. Only one on the Pro.

Thank you for your response, but I already gleaned what you said.

I have already found that you cannot gauge actual performance by looking at individual measures. ARTIsRight in his actual testing showed that. In various measures, the M4pro lost or was equaled by the m1Max. Actual performance measurement with Topaz is what I am looking for.

Thanks again.
