My video workflow using Video AI has basically stopped since updating to 4.0. It really feels like a great product has been made much more confusing and even reduced in features. Output previews don’t show up any more, The UI is very confusing now, and I don’t really see any major added features.
It is possible to re-install the pre 4.0 version until all these bugs are worked out I hope.
Update: I was able to revert back to 3.5.4 for now. It is so much better for my workflow.
The impetus behind V4 seems to have been to reach a wider audience. Topaz started a larger marketing campaign (I saw more advertisements about V4 than I’ve ever seen for TVAI before), and the UI was completely reworked with the intent of giving the program a simpler and less-intimidating feel it seems.
As far as video processing goes, V4 has been better for me than any version before it. But using the new UI is not a pleasant experience, and other useful features have been inexplicably dropped (like hovering over parameters to see a description of what they’re doing; now you have to look them up in the guide…)
If they are going to keep this new UI layout, it would be nice to have the ability to shrink the display scale; needing to use scroll bars so much is not fun at all. And I don’t like having to manually readjust the panes every time I launch the program. There should be an option to save these changes.
