I just purchased a Windows laptop with a Snapdragon X2 Elite (ARM) processor, primarily to have a small light laptop for travel on photo trips, using primarly Lightroom Classic and Topaz Photo, and some Photoshop. Once I realized there are ARM processor issues with Topaz and Lightroom Classic, I was able to install and use both on this new laptop, but they seem a bit glitchy so far. I’m considering whether to return the laptop and instead stick with Intel or AMD, or if it’s worth sticking with the ARM processor. I would like to hear from those who use both apps regularly on Windows ARM - are there any ongoing annoyances - performance, crashes, speed issues, features that don’t work well, emulation issues? Any advice or recent experience with this issue would be appreciated - thank you.
While Snapdragon machines can be good travel machine, they are not machines optimized for heavy AI processes and will have limitations. As workarounds you can use The Web based version, but it requires stable high speed internet: https://app.topazlabs.com/
If you are looking for a computer that will be reliable, it would require a NVIDIA or AMD card with 6GB VRAM minimum, or 8GB VRAM recommended, and that is not possible on a ARM machine. If you wanted to change machines for one that can handle processing, a AMD or NVIDIA card would definitely be needed!
