Topaz Photo AI, will indeed have the same Model Files as Gigapixel because of it’s similar Upscaling ability and as for, removing them I wouldn’t have thought that would be a good idea because, it may affect Photo AI’s functionality.
In light of that, speaking of good Ideas placing them into a sheared folder to save space allowing, both applications could access the Models from the same place would be a good idea.
Perhaps, you would like to suggest it under the Ideas Category so others could Vote on it, inturn leading to Topaz incorporating it within a future update.
However, if you’re still thinking about removing the Model Files may suggest contacting Topaz Support directly incase you receive the wrong information from someone else.
Yes, I failed to mentioned that in my original reply, if you delete the model files from the directory, Topaz Gigapixel AI and Photo AI will typically re-download them automatically when needed for processing. These applications are designed to fetch the required AI models dynamically based on the task you’re performing whether it’s upscaling, denoising, or enhancing.
also, worth mentioning, both applications need to be online to download missing models. If you’re offline, the operation may fail and you’re probably have issues with model downloads due to Firewalls, Antivirus Software, or VPNs interfering with the connection.
I deleted the Gigapixel AI models (6) and Photo AI models (8). Topaz very politely redownloaded them all when next I ran those programs. I didn’t regain any disk space but I did learn that the very similarly named models are not leftovers from previous downloads. It was worth a try.
