Bit depth Generator - 8bit to 16bit

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday, I encountered an issue with color correction after processing some animations. It’s similar to the classic problem of banding in gradients.

The source footage was of very poor quality anyway. Is there any plan for a future feature that allows handling true bit depth, such as 8-bit, 16-bit, or even 32-bit?

Perhaps an AI-driven method to increase color steps could help improve color correction. While the SDR-to-HDR function does expand the color range, it’s not quite the solution I’m looking for.

I hope this feedback can contribute to a future update.
Keep up the great work

thank you!

EXR now supports 32 bit image sequences starting in Video AI 7.

Can you share a screenshot or the input/output where you had the color issue for testing?

You can securely submit your file(s) to our Dropbox using the link below. Please be sure to send me a note to let me know you sent something and include the file name.

oh nice!
thats good to know. Unfortunately I’m not allowed to share these files, a have to get extra permission for this and so on… also these videos are not so interesting.

I let the video run through ‘Starlight Mini’ and/or ‘Proteus’. After that, I used ‘Apollo’ for slow motion and then ‘Chronos’ to increase the frame rate. The result was good! The output file was a 4K .mov with a ProRes 422 HQ codec.

I tried to recreate a similar clip for this topic but now the color range looks way better, when i adjust the curves or levels. Maybe i forgot before to export the clip with the right container/codec. I work since a few days with TopazVideo, so I’m not 100% familiar yet with all the possibility’s.

Does every “enhancement model” convert the colors to bigger range?
Or are does it need special output settings to be defined?
(**Like PNG or TIFF Sequenz, there is a switch from 8 to 16bit)

Thanks!

Each codec will have different bit depth options.
