Best settings to upscale surfing videos with no picture change

What are the best settings to upscale surfing videos without image being affected.

I upscaled a 30fps 4K video to 120fps and though image is identical to the original, there’s this pulsing cloudy effect to the spray of the wave in the upscaled version. Would love to keep the crashing wave looking exactly like in the original video file and not altered.

Can you upload a sample for testing? Which model did you test on the process? Are you upscaling past 4k resolution or are you just trying to adjust the frame rate of playback?

Haven’t exported anything yet. I’m currently experimented with various different settings and checking the preview renderings to see if I find the right setting that’ll keep water looking normal and realistic. The surfer and the main body of water looks normal - just the breaking wave looks unnatural.

The original file is already 4K. I’m upscaling 30fps to 120fps. Everything looks perfect except for the breaking wave having that pulsing cloudy effect.

You are changing the frame rate to 120 fps, what are you wanting to do with it after that? Are you trying to slow down the footage?

Water can be tricky to get the AI models to interpret as it is clear and moves quickly in the frame thus the AI models have a hard time reading its movement.

Can you upload a sample of the original video here so I or other users can try and run a test to help?

If you have not looked at the Aion model that might be a good option for you to try if your system has enough VRAM to run it.

Yes, I’m upscaling to 120fps in order to smooth slo mo the footage.

Here is a WeTransfer of the original file:

Here are two tests I ran for you both on auto settings for the models.

3x slow motion applied with Aion model.

120 fps with Apollo model

These both look fantastic. I just did a preview rendering using Aion but unchecked duplicate frames replace and it eliminated that misty clouding on the waves so it looks Iike I wanted it. I think that did the trick.

Good to hear you found a setting that works.
