I used to like to scroll through new images before. With the new look, I just get a list. I find it laborious clicking on each to open - so I am unlikely to keep checking the forum from now on.
Should I be seeing peoples new images on opening, or not?

I agree, too. This is a forum for photographs and yet it seems that text has been the major consideration during the redesign.

Agreed! If this is a photo review, why are we only seeing text. Poor design…no?

I wouldn’t call this a redesign. This is just a starter template for the upgraded server. The web / design team is working on one that facilitates your / our needs, namely the image preview thumbnails in the list views. Hang tight. I don’t like it either.
