What the tile says. I was very happy Gigapixel started to catch up with Remini AI for face enhancement, due to Topaz being more accurate. However version 7.4.2 again has washed out, watercolor level of fine detail and even when I set output to 50 or 70 percent, the files are huge in comparison to last version and to Remini. I have 500 KB vs 25 MB (!) on 3000x3500px image between Remini and Topaz. Before the update I got a megabajt or two, which was fine. This new update also seems to freeze app more often on Mac (macbook pro, M1, updated to newest OS), which was not the case with previous version. Unfortunately I need to downgrade, just when things looked promising again.
Just to clarify: I mean normal enhancement face such as Low res v2, which I used to find very good if the feed photo had okay detail. I just checked Face Recovery Gen. 2 and it’s very good, but it takes twice as long and is not as sharp like Remini (but has more accurate likeness). Overall my biggest complaint is that export files sizes for jpg are way to big files.
The difference in file size is striking! at twice the size it shouldn’t be more than 3.2mb if not less - and that’s how it was before.
For sharpness - run any portrait via Topaz and Remini to see the huge difference when zoomed in.
Also, which I reported before, when I hit SAVE and immediately switch to other Mac Desktop Window or other app that is open full screen, Gigapixel icon in Dock will start jumping as soon as it finishes exporting/saving, begging for my attention - which is super distracting and not productive, because I need to take time to return to first desktop where I have Gigapixel open to close the notification that file is exported. It would be nice to have option to disable that.
Sorry, I was wrong. When file is done exporting, the file size is normal like before. It’s before and during export the size is shown as very big which is confusing. Here are two examples before/during (larger size) and when it’s completed (lower size). So file size is as it was before, but confusing values before/after.
And once Gen 2 beta loaded for the first time, face recovery is speedy/within reason again. However it’s not as sharp as Low res v2 and not as accurate. Gen 2 quite blurry when zoomed in and it changes facial features by quite a lot - for example making nose tip longer/changing its shape, while Low res v2 although not ideal, is much more accurate. Overall if the photos are good quality, Gigapixel is great help. If photos aren’t sharp or are poor quality/small file size, then Remini saves the day.
