Why are the exported Topaz videos yellowish?

Hey,

Since yesterday I’m happy to edit some of my videos with Topaz Video AI.
BUT, why are the videos output by Topaz more yellow than the original?

I have only enhanced a few videos from 24/25 frames to 50 frames. Nothing else.

Especially with the skin tones you can see this extremely.
I haven’t found any information about this anywhere and as far as I know you can’t make any setting in Topaz that favors this yellow tint.
It is quite annoying and also time-consuming if you have to correct the videos again in FinalCut or Premiere.

Any tips/help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Teddy

Video AI’s color handling has always been problematic, especially with some models.

Yes, I see it is problematic, but what can we do?
I used the Enhancement Apollo and Apollo Fast module.

The color cast of the Apollo model is serious, and it can only be avoided.

Hello,

Would it be possible to get a copy of the log files from Video AI, and the original video file you’re working with?

You can securely submit your file(s) to our Dropbox using the link below. Please be sure to send me a note to let me know you sent something.

Hi Tony,

Thank you for getting in touch and for your support in solving this issue.

I have uploaded a snippet of the original video file and the Topaz Apollo file to your Dropbox:

MARLEY Magazine - Teddy Marks - Kate Bali LUSH_original_cut Teddy Marks.mp4 (the original)
MARLEY Magazine - Teddy Marks - Kate Bali LUSH_topaz_apollo_cut Teddy Marks.mp4 (the Topaz processed)

Additionally, I added two screen shots from Topaz:

  1. Working with Apollo with frame 24 to 50 conversion:
    MARLEYMagazine_TeddyMarks_Colors_left-original_right-topaz-apolloAI Teddy Marks.jpg
  2. Showing the same problem with Proteus while upscaling:
    MARLEYMagazine_TeddyMarks_Colors_left-original_right-topaz-protheusAI Teddy Marks.jpg

You can clearly see the yellowish coloration.
I thought maybe it was just the preview at first, but it is rendered that way.

The AI really does a great job in terms of upscaling, enhancement, etc., but this coloring is unacceptable.

I wonder why no one ever mentioned this before.
It is so obvious.

What can we do?

Thank you for your support.

Cheers,

Teddy

I noticed this too! :eyes:

Hi, isn’t it because you’re switching from an SD source to an HD source? The colors change from BT 609 to BT 709 right?? It does it to me with my SD videos when I upscale in HD. But when I convert to SD without touching the resolution, the colors don’t change. Maybe a little by exporting in PNG rather than in Prores, we will say in this case that there is a slight modification but catchable in post production

Hi,

Thanks that there are some reading along here and looking for a solution.
It’s not very nice, but I’m glad to hear that I’m not alone here with this problem.

The yellow coloration always happens, it doesn’t matter which filter with which module you use, and not only when upscaling from SD to HD.
All conversions in Topaz become more yellow.
