Video Enhance PC Setup Suggestions

Can someone suggest a PC Setup that will convert SD to HD @ 0.10 to 0.15 sec? I have 8 full movies I need to convert for a client, my MAC convert around 0.19 sec / frame but that my main dev machine and I can’t lock it up for long periods of time

I can not really make a recommendation, but I can tell you that I also get around 0.2 s on my MacBook Pro 16inch 5500m. When I boot into bootcamp with the eGPU (2070 Super), it works about twice as fast. But that is for my particular setup and the particular videos I upscale (320x240 → x2).

Very interesting, that could be an option I’m looking to get a PC with best-buy 45 day return policy for testing

I can not really recommend an eGPU as it can be quite time consuming to set up and it requires some tinkering. For me, though, it works great! Ordering a test setup is certainly safer.

I think I will order me a Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box 550 with a AMD Radeon Pro W5700 or AMD Radeon Pro WX 8200. I’m also looking at AKiTiO Node Titan by OWC. What one do you use and what card do you have in it?

What model? I find that Artemis is about twice as fast as Gaia, as a simple example. Makes it hard to know how to answer.

I should also ask what size SD? 858x480 will take a lot longer than 640x480 as another example. Give us some exact numbers and I at least will run on mine to see what I get. I have sample videos setup at just about every resolution there is.

My Macbook pro is

MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019)
2.4 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9
AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8 GB

Settings below

  1. Artemis HQ V8
  2. Orignal SD640x480 render to HD1280X720
  3. 0.17 / 0.19 sec / frame

I just picked up a PC Gaming Laptop for 1199 @ bestbuy with 45 return

[ASUS - ROG Zephyrus G14 14" Gaming Laptop - AMD Ryzen 9 - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Max-Q - 1TB SSD - Moonlight White]

See Results ( same settings as above ) and the speed is 0.10/ 0.11 sec / frame

Looks right to me, although I have no experience with AMD CPUs (and no knowledge of whether it makes any difference)

I have two machines. Using your settings: Desktop i9-9900 64GB with RTX2080ti 11GB runs a steady 0.10 sec/frame.

17-inch Laptop i7-10875 32GB with RTX2060 6GB runs at 0.11-0.12 sec/frame.

Both are all SSD

Note that Artemis, in 1.7.1, is the lowest impact of any of the models in terms of GPU usage. With Gaia HQ on the same settings the desktop is 0.15 sec/frame, and with Gaia CG it is 0.16 sec/frame. That’s why I asked for the size and model for the test.

Thank you, this will work for now and I think I will return this and build a tower at some point

You would surely want an SSD or two SSDs for your hard drives.
