Video AI 3.0.0.1.b

Marty,
You seem to think that Proteus Auto still runs in Auto mode if changes are made to settings from the default. I was of the impression that changing and setting with Auto switched on simply disabled Auto.

Which is true?

You can set it to fully auto, and then take control of individual sliders while keeping the rest in auto. That is how it works according to the devs.

So, Auto runs, but the manual settings becomes static?

Is that it?

My understanding is, the ones you set manually are added to or subtracted from the auto setting for that slider, per frame.

So if you set Sharpen to +10, and auto determines +30 is right for a frame, the result will be a Sharpen value of +40…for that one frame, and so on.

So no, not a static value…but a static add/subtract to the auto value.

I tried with VLC but nothing improved.

LOL !

So you are right when you write VLC is a junk either.

There seems to be playback problems with the output produced by this release.

Thanks!

Good to know.

I’d suggest they change the Proteus switch ā€˜ON’ color from default blue to yellow to indicate it is active but not in Default. As it is presently, It just grays out, which generally means inactive.

No, didn’t say that. VLC is great. The built in app on Windows is junk.

Generally, I suspect that CROP TO FILL in RESIZE should default to ā€œOFFā€

By defaulting to ā€œON.ā€ it is too likely that a user will accidentally trim the output.

I can’t agree more with Lee.keels about that ! the video App of Microsoft, including the new one from Windows 11 (which replace groove music and Windows Media player) is Pure garbage, Crap etc … (just filll the dots…). I only use sometimes the film & tv one because it handle some 360° video that some other players don’t.

Vlc, MPC-HC or MPC-BE (fork of MPC), and some other players are very nice. i’m not a VLC guy , too many settings, and started to use MPC since the classic version, switched to the Home theater version, and when they stopped the developpement, switched to the BE one. then the team behind the HC one started to do some new fixes recently, but now i’m used to the BE… there are some other nice players, but Microsoft failed on this since day one. the only nice software they did in video they closed it, it was the Media center one !

Hi,

Okay but I use both, Films & TV and VLC.

Considering my experience of both applications, I see no differences beside these points:

Films & TV is very basic and doesn’t support HEVC but plays perfectly FHD AVC MP4 until now.

VLC plays most or any video formats but I got in the past few glitches like freezing, mosaics or color saturation on a very limited videos.

VLC plays ISO, but according to my experience about 5 % of ISO are just crashing.

It is due to a library that may not properly decipher the ISO.

VLC is naturally more complex and handles more tasks.

It expands implicitly the scope of bug sources.

So when you are testing an AVC MP4 export, always use the most basic and integrated application instead of more advanced and universal ones.

By default I am playing on VLC, but not when there’s issues.

I don’t even use VLC myself other than for DVD playback (but I would choose it over the Windows crap app. For everything else I use MPC-HC that comes with the K-Lite Codec Pack (Mega).

But the problem playing the preview export does not come from Films & TV, Windows Media Player or VLC.

The export in my case is just stuttering!

i know , i was just commenting about the windows app, because i love sometimes to tell when a Microsoft software is a pure cr*p sorry.

about your stuttering, i’m afraid you didn’t see one of my message about this beta, i got some issues at rendering some test , and got different issue in some player (MPC included), 100 first frames were playing and then freezed. I rarely saw that in my softwares except with corrupted video.

as told to someone else today, i need to do some tests, about the issue with Vegas Pro too, but i’m just too tired actually, not sure i’ll be able to do it tonight or tomorrow.

just to tell that you’re not alone. i got the issue you described twice.
Maybe something else is involved. for now, i couldn’t reproduce this for the few i could test. (Salut au fait !! ).

Yeah, I understand that. I never said any of these players would fix that. They won’t. I just said the built in player in Windows is junk.

Interesting. I tried to deinterlace, and auto-crop and preview wouldn’t run.

Lee already replied to you, and i think the same.
it’s logic and from what the dev told on this feature, it’s seems to work like that. Auto is always turned on. the sliders once moved doesn’t put the autoswitch to off during the processing. it just add or remove from the settings a certain number of %. see it as Add / substract. is it calculated in term of % or something else, i don’t know, but it doesn’t make a lot of difference. i think this feature is a nice addition, especially as the 2 other previous ones are kept. but of course, it’s only usable when the speed / optimisation issue will be done.

the probability it will done is 100%. because VEAI or any topaz product without GPU acceleration is a ā€œno goā€. every customer would stop using it without it. so it’s just a matter of time until it will be implanted again. it has been certainly put away temporary to not add any other issues to the actual developpement.

  • can’t test long video, i’m getting a 0.5 fps, and can’t block the computer during a long time for this anyway, did a new test with custom height video. and clearly there is an issue with importing the video in vegas pro.

i processed a 3 to 4 sec video , artemis + size , custom export (Mp4 H264 10mbs with Copy).
imported it in vegas pro : it imported one frame from the video, and the audio track normally.
one frame on a 4 seconds video. something is wrong…

  • found another GUI issue : the windows 11 feature to divide the screen (maximize button at the top right) is not working. someone else reported the same issue with 0.4 Photo Ai.

I hope so. Right now it is Proteus rescaling to FHA @ 2.3 fps. I’ve tried turning the GPU and Memory clocks way up and it.makes no difference. The rest of the system is running at about 22% load.

I also think the Auto feature in Proteus is doing a lot of work. If it needs to keep reassessing the video stream to make adjustments, that is a tall order. I have no idea what they would be coding it in either. Today’s faster processors has allowed most development to be done on high-level languages. Doing a frame-by-frame analysis in any high level language would slow things way down.

Years ago, we did nearly everything using assembly code or macro assemblers, especially when we needed to talk directly to the hardware. The way modern processors have been designed is to facilitate the development and use of high-level languages. -

So It’s like the economy. Things cost more because the dollar shrinks… The only significant difference betrween these comparisons is there’s a limit to how fast electricity moves in semiconductors..
