VEAI 3.0: Back to the Future

This sounds amazing. Thanks for the effort and look forward to trying out the early releases!

not sure if it is ā€œbakedā€ was added by WB when they did a DVD release. people complained the pirated copies where lower quality but not interlaced and WB response was ā€œthis is the best quality copies we foundā€ aka they probably destroyed the originals since the show aired 2003 and the DVD set was made 2008

Wow very excited for this one!!
Hope to start testing the new Alpha/Beta and give feedback

Really looking forward to testing the new version. Changes sound amazing and is a much needed new direction for the product to allow it to move forward.

Regarding stabilization of 360 material please keep in mind that these videos have an extreme advantage over standard videos: You dont have to use a lower resolution to stabilize, and therefore you dont loose information. If the frame e.g. is moved one pixel to the right from one frame to the next to stabilize, then you can take the missing pixel on the left edge from the column that would fall out at the right. FCP can not use 360 material correctly to stabilize or track, i hope VEAI 3.x can.

As i saw that ffmpeg, at least in the latest alpha of VEAI, is no native Apple M1 (or Mx) application i researched the project information and it is stated there that it will and can never be made M1 native, as important base libraries of ffmpeg are end of life and will not be ported to M1. If you go ffmpeg centralized with VEAI , how will you be able to support M1 natively then?

When all that intent will work finally VEAI will be a great success

Can you share a few seconds test clips from that?

I can quickly analyze and tell you if it is baked or not.

However, this might lead to working on an AI filter in future that works for baked interlace, as it should be easy to create test baked interlaced video data from good non-interlaced video.

I would love to see Topaz VEAI heading into film restoration.

Very, very excited it, it’s what the program needs in my opinion. Best of luck and respect!

Great news! Look forward to trying!

Very cool stuff coming, thanks for keeping improving!

Thanks for this amazing step in chaining ffmpeg.

Very exciting news!
Although I am very satisfied with VEAI 2.6x versions, I can’t wait for that v3
As far as you can, don’t break things that work well today (no regression).

On my side, I’d love to be able to deinterlace videos AND make fine-tuning processing with Proteus at the same time. Or even better, add a ā€œdeinterlaceā€ option to every model.

Keeping original audio would save a lot of time too.

Keep up this amazing work, team!

My first test of VEAI3 with alq was ok, the second try not

Congratulation – that’s the right direction! I appreciate the decision to support CLI too. Is there a change to incorporate remote computing as well? E.g., to submit a job from a M1 (MacOS) machine to a RTX 30XX Windows machine and vice versa to unload the current machine?

This is good news. I’m particular hyped for the new CLI support, meaning I’ll be able to use VEAI once again. Now I’m hoping for a deblender model and everything will be perfect

my 3rd try did not finish

while processing there was very low load on GPU and CPU

about 1% of processing the GPU was really in use

This is very good news! I look forward to trying it out. :slightly_smiling_face:

please, post all this on the alpha 3.0 forum, not here… !! it will better seen by the devs than here in the middle of all the message commenting the news of the 3.0

for the gpu information don’t use the one from windows, it’s not accurate.
