I upscaled it from 4k to 8k, but when I check with Media Info, it had to be changed from h264 to h265, and from AVC to HEVC. Also, as you can see : images2.imgbox.c om/f0/ee/oBN8GqlE_o.png it’s not 4.2.2 anymore.
What does that mean for my workflow, should I do it before it hits the coloring page in Davinci Resolve or after exporting my entire timeline ?
On one hand I don’t know if some of my original file information (was 10 bit) is still inside after that upscaling, I don’t understand which conversion Topaz does apply, so I’m afraid to lose pixel or color information after that process (it’s double the resolution but not double the size).
On the other hand, I’m also afraid Topaz will mess up my colors if I upscale after the Davinci Resolve export of the whole project.
What is the preferred way to do it and how do I make sure my 10 bits of info from my log footage are not lost after running it through Topaz ?
But more seriously, all processing in TVAI is done in rgb48le colorspace. Assuming ffmpeg can identify the input colorspace correctly, the conversion to rgb48le will happen automatically and correctly. If it can’t, it will still happen automatically, but incorrectly.
Take care when you are selecting your output codec, that you pick one that can hold all 10 bits or whatnot. If you do not, TVAI will convert it to something generally more compatible with standard video players.
Knowing about that colorspace conversion happens no matter what, should help you decide if you want TVAI to decree what those raw colors mean, or some other application.
You’re confirming my fears about that process. How do I know if the input colorspace is identified correctly ? And how do I know if the output codec I’m selecting can hold 10 bits and is suited to be worked on in Davinci Resolve afterwards for coloring ?
Makes me think I should just do my process normally then after the final export in Davinci, upscale in Topaz
You should, i doubt the topaz models are trained with log footage. Also in my experience topaz handles colored footage way better then log. I would also be careful which noise you like to be handled by Topaz. It can do wonders but you need to isolate which noise you pass-on to Topaz.
My impression is adjusting brighntess/contrast/colors/gamma before brings better results but I can’t say for sure or it’s just a wrong feeling. I do it anyway before, because it’s easier to find the optimal settings in TVAI when it’s more contrasty than when there’s a white veil over the video.
