Upgrades of PhotoAI are common. That’s good - not complaining about that. However every time one installs an upgrade, other things happen.
The current complaint is that the desktop shortcut is “removed” and “replaced” - but in the default Windows location - that is, different from where I have carefully placed it in my artistically crafted (not!) desktop arrangement… And it is a nuisance to find. There’s no reason to replace the shortcut that I can see - it points to the program of the same name.
Is it possible to alter the upgrade installation algorithm so it doesn’t replace the shortcuts?
I imagine this happens for other Topaz installations too…
The new shortcut is in fact identical to the old one… The ‘target’ is exactly the same. It’s not like the version has it’s own unique subdirectory or unique name. They are the same as the original version…
And virtually all other programs that I have that do a similar update process do not have this problem - the shortcuts for those programs remains where they start out… I’m going to hazard a guess that it is something to do with how the update is installed - it’s almost as if it is treating itself as a ‘fresh program install’. I would have guessed that the programmer could somehow put in an “if-exist” statement about the shortcut… But I’m not a programmer so I recognize that it might not be that easy.
However this isn’t the biggest issue in the world so I’m not going to spend too much time worrying about it. I simply thought I would point it out as a small irritation.
