Update 3.1 of Topaz Photo AI - exported files STILL missing metadata (EXIF, GPS, original date taken, etc.)

This is an issue that’s been reported in previous versions of Photo AI. It’s a known issue and really frustrating one. This worked before the 3.0 update. Again, whenever you go from Lightroom to Photo AI via the Plugin-Extras → Process with Photo AI, when exporting back into Lightroom from Photo AI, the new file loses all the metadata that was present in the original file, including the original time the picture was taken on. When will this be fixed? Been reported by many people. Thank you.

Steps to reproduce issue:

  1. In Lightroom Classic, choose an image (in my case a DNG), go to File → Plugin-extras → Process with Photo AI
  2. In Photo AI, export editing file back to Lightroom.
  3. Look at metadata for the new DNG, it lost all of the metadata information that was present in the original file, including original capture time.

We have a known issue with the metadata on some formats, and our development team is looking into it to fix it. I added your thread to their ticket so they can do some tests.

For now, there is this potential workaround:

  • Edit your photo in Photo AI using the standalone app instead of using it as a plugin in Lightroom Classic, then import the exported file into Lightroom Classic to finish your color correction, lighting adjustments, etc.

Once the issue is fixed and released, we will circle back with you directly on this thread to let you know!

Topaz Photo AI removes and replaces original metadata, incl. not keeping the Lens Corrections of the original photo and Keywords

Most photographers organise their files using the original date, having Photo AI replace it is a nuisance, as it is also having to manually re-tick “Remove Chromatic Aberration” and “Enable Profile corrections”, and having to select the make and lens model.

If this is by design, please include the option to KEEP the original metadata

Yeah, it’s a known issue. Apparently it doesn’t wipe out the metadata when using the standalone app. Been waiting for this fix for the plugin for a while.

Cheers, JP.

How does one grab Topaz’ attention to fix something like this?
Richard

They keep saying it’s a known bug and that the devs will fix this in a future version…who knows when.

Good morning,
this is my problem: I open the photos in DNG format from Lightroom to Topaz Photo AI, going from the menu in Lightroom → file → extra plug-in → Process with Topaz Photo AI - > Edit a Copy.

When the editing is finished, the photo returns to Lightroom as a DNG copy as it should be.

The problem is in the Exif, the acquisition date is changed to creation date and the name and model of the camera is lost.

This is a shame and creates additional work to restore the Exif.

I hope for an update to solve the problem as for the rest the program works very well!

Work platform:
Pentax K-1II camera, Topaz Photo AI latest updated version, Lightroom latest updated version, Windows 11 updated.

Greetings Flavio

Yeah, this has been an issue for a while now. They’ve said they were “working on it” but no ETA. Really kills the flow when you have to use the standalone app, re-import, stack. I’m not sure why this is not a bigger priority for them

If I edit a picture in Lr classic 14.0.1 using File → Plugin Options → Process with Topaz Photo AI and export it afterward back to LrC this file will have set metadata for capturing to date and time of editing in Photo AI.

Steps to reproduce issue:

  1. Edit picture from LrC in PhotoAI using the Topaz Lr Plugin
  2. Export it back from PhotoAI to LrC
  3. Pictures capture time will be set to edit time

Topaz Photo AI [v3.3.1] on [Mac M1 MacOS 15.1]

Today I have had an issue with date and time. I am exporting and Importing to Lightroom Classic. Since the newest Betav3.4.0.1.b which I have used today first time. The image is exported to Lightroom with date and time of editing not capturing.

The new images do not preserve the original methadata.

  1. LrC 13.5.1 . File, plug in extras, process in TPAI.
  2. processes normal in TPAI, export to LrC
  3. origianl DNG, intermediated virtual copies, and DNG export from TPAI all have Capture Date/Time changed from shoot time to TPAI edit time.
Of course I noe have trouble finding my edits(moved to last file in folder) and I need to spend time changing the Metadata back to original. Note another post stated that multiple categories of EXIF dial were changed, so this may be a broader problem.

Is there a fix for this bug, or what is the status of resolving it?
