Unable to update Photo AI or save back to LRC

A couple of weeks ago, I suddenly started having issues saving photos back to LRC, though it had been working fine. I happened to see there was an update for Photo AI however, so I attempted to install it hoping it would fix the issue saving to LR. Couldn’t update successfully either. More info below.

  1. The version of Photo AI you have - 3.2.2 on Windows 11

  2. The bug / behavior you have encountered - multiple.

a) When attempting to update to 3.2.1 (and again with 3.2.2), I get the following error: “Error opening installation log file. Verify that the specified log file location exists and is writable”. Had to uninstall and manually install the new version.

b) Starting with 3.2.0 (just as 3.2.1 was first available) I have been getting an error when saving back to LRC (v13.5.1) : “Error: Cannot open output file”

  2. Your log files (Help > Open Log Folder within Photo AI) - attached

Topaz Photo AI 3.2.2 on Windows

Let’s try to reset your Lightroom plugin to try and get it working for you. You can follow the directions below to reset your Lightroom plugin:

  1. Close Lightroom fully.
  2. Run the Topaz Photo AI installer again. Get a new one from the downloads page: Topaz Labs Downloads
  3. Open Lightroom and check the File > Plug-ins Extras again.

Let me know if those steps get it working again.

If it does not, open Topaz Photo AI, go to the menu bar on the top, and click the ‘Help > Open Log Folder’ menu option. Please send in all the files located in this folder.

You can securely submit your files(s) to my Dropbox using the link below. Make sure to send me a note to let me know you sent something.

Dropbox File Request

HI John,

I tried the steps you provided above, after uninstalling the existing Photo AI. I said yes when it asked if I wanted to remove the config stuff. After reinstalling and then trying to export a photo, I received the same “Error: Cannot open output file”.

I did notice that my previous presets were still there in Photo AI, but I would have thought they would have been deleted as part of the configuration?

I did attach my log files and dxdiag in my original post already, but if you need me to send them to your dropbox as well, I will.

Also, I realized my topic subject wasn’t super clear that I have 2 separate issues. One is the export to LRC, but I’m also having problems with updating the software itself when it tells me there is one. Not sure if you caught that or not, but I also edited my subject.

There may be an issue with your in-app update option with Topaz Photo AI.

Please make sure you’ve also turned off any firewall, VPN, or proxy that may be on your computer. These are known to block the installation.

Also, make sure no settings configuration in your Windows system could interfere.

Unfortunately I’ve tried the things that you mentioned already, more than once. Tried again now though, with the same result.

Prior to this, I had zero issues even with ZoneAlarm FW/AV on. I also don’t use a proxy or VPN at home. This is honestly ridiculous. There seem to be some pretty significant bugs in the last 2 updates, and I’m really close to canceling my subscription over it. :frowning:

I don’t want to do that, as this is my favorite product, but I can’t see paying for something I can’t use in the way that fits my workflow.
