Topaz Video AI: Rendering Issues

My preview screen is completely black. While the audio in the clip plays just fine, I can’t see anything because of the black screen. On top of that, every time I try to render, I get an error right away.

I’ve already tried reinstalling everything and lowering the maximum memory as suggested, but nothing has worked. I’m feeling stuck, so I decided to make my own post to ask for help.

Same problem here, updated to 5.5.0 today and have no preview any longer, it is just blank!

Hi, this bug should be resolved in the next update. For now I’d recommend rolling back to 5.3.6

Video AI | 5.3.6 | Windows

Regarding the errors, these seem to be file specific:

Failed to decode frame: Corrupt frame detected

Can you try running your input clip through handbrake to convert it and see if that fixes it to bring it back into Video AI

When I updated to 5.4 it completely broke my preview on my i9 PC. Mac still seems to work fine.

Went back to 5.3.6 and all is well again.

I updated to 5.5 and again it broke my preview on the PC once again…. Have not updated on Mac yet

Did the same…… went back to 5.3.6 and all is well again.

There’s a definite bug on the PC side and I have all the latest Intel microcode, Nvidia drivers and my machine is in perfect working order.

I’ve just try the beta 6.0.0.1 with OS 11.24, CPU i9 10900K and RTX 3070 and the problem persists, like version 5.4 or later.

Hi John,

Can you try creating a new project file to see if that resolves the black screen preview issue?

File > New project

I just upgraded to Version 6.0. Made sure all windows updates were up-to-date and my Nvidia 4080 video drivers have latest.

I am just having a devil of a time on the PC side.

I tried a new project…. But it not only did not give me the preview window, now the 12 second blue button that allows you to try various enhancements no longer functions.

Nor does the Play / pause button on the viewer……most of the time….

And when I hit the play button (if and when the play button works)…… The video immediately starts to render.

Absolutely nothing that I am familiar with seems to work.

I was trying to use the new preset that you have for 8 mm film conversion.

I am at a total loss on this…… ever since you went beyond 5.3.6…… topaz video AI has failed miserably on the PC side for me.

I retired from IT and I am pretty tech savvy…… I have updated all drivers, the bios on my machine and the machine works beautifully with zero problems in every other program.

I don’t know what to do at this point. Please advise….

I am updating my brand new M4 Pro Mac Mini and will let you know how that goes.

How do we get around the blank screen issue other than staying put with 5.3.6? I thought version 6 was meant to fix this. I have Nvidia 4080 with current updates.

My PC remains basically useless for Topaz Video AI unless reverted back to 5.3.6.

Black review screen and various other viewer related problems.

seems to be an issue with nvidia 4080 video cards from what I can gather

The good news is my brand new M4 Pro Mac functions beautifully with Video AI 6.0.

One question:

Why does Topaz continue to render the rest of the video beyond the 10 second blue quick review button?

I have to manually stop it.

On my Mac….I try a module or different settings….hit the blue button for a 10 second render and a Quick Look at proposed changes……

And the program just continues to render once it goes beyond the 10 seconds.

Feature?
Bug?
Something in settings I need to adjust?

Same problems here - no preview for the original, not playing back. Win11, 4090.

As do I, on 5.5.1. Long standing issue it seems. AMD Ryzen 9 5950X, 4070ti, 32GB RAM. Latest Nvidia driver, as well.

Good job on putting out bad updates Topaz, I guess…

This may not have anything to do with the black screen issue but I have tried every solution proposed on my PC to no avail…

only thing that works Is 5.3.6

BTW. New M4 Pro Mac Mini works beautifully with 6.0…… a very nice upgrade from 5.3.6.

But I noticed something when I upgraded on the PC side….

The new features explanations that first appear when you launch the program were truncated mid word and skipped to the next line. It did not do that on the Mac.

So this got me thinking….

Could this “no preview screen” be a monitor related issue??

I have an Alienware wide screen 34 in 2k monitor on my PC and he normal 4K Apple Studio monitor on the Mac.

I doubt this has anything to do with the issue but with so many people saying they have this problem….and with a wide variety of monitors being used….

Thought I’d report it.

Hi all experiencing the black preview monitor, please try the following steps which has resolved the issue for some users:

  1. Uninstall Video AI from the system

  2. Download and reinstall the latest Studio Driver from NVIDIA drivers update page, do not install the full GeForce Experience app just install the driver.

  3. Restart your system

  4. Download a clean installer using the following link and reinstall the app: Video AI | 6.0.1 | Windows

Once you have done that open the app back up and load a clip in.

If that does not resolve the issue please let me know and I will check with the team to see if they have found anything else to try.
