Topaz Video AI Low Frame Rate Or Stuck At Model Loaded

Since June, Topaz Video AI has became almost completely useless on my machine. Some 9 out of 10 attempts at upscaling video, it will either get stuck at Model Loaded, or will start converting at extremely low frame rate of around 0.2fps for videos/settings that would normally be upscaling at 5-7fps at least. Only sometimes, after several reloadings of the app will it upscale correctly at expected speeds. The issue is not with the video as the same videos will sometimes work and most of the times will not. It happens with all upscale models I tried, too. I close all other programs while running it (and it doesn’t improve the situation).

I have AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12-Core Processor at 3.7GHz, 64Gb RAM, and RTX4090 with 24Gb RAM.

Double check that the AI Processor is set to use the RTX 4090 GPU card and not set to Auto.

File>Preferences>Processing

  1. Ensure that your GPU is selected for the AI Processor
  2. Set the max memory to 90%
  3. Set max processes to 1
  4. Save the settings and close the panel.
  5. Re-run your clip through the process that you were trying.

Hi Kyle, thanks so much for your help - I think this solves it. 3 days in, and the problems didn’t happen again. Thanks
