Topaz Video AI Alpha v4.2.3.1.a (Nyx v3)

Currently my computer is off and I am not at home. I used the model in auto mode not manual.

The image compares the result of Nyx 2 with that of Nyx 3. Nyx 2 sharpens by default and Nyx 3 does not, which is why the Nyx 3 result looks blurrier.

We can confirm that the sharpness of the input frame (attached below) is similar to that of the Nyx 3 result. Moreover, Nyx 3 (like Nyx Fast 1) enables the sharpen slider, allowing one to sharpen the result as needed (rather than sharpening by default, as in Nyx 2).

Thank you for the extensive review! With regards to your last question on the contrast under the truck, we suspect it is because of the anti-alias / deblur slider value of 69 which is very high. For relative to auto, 69 is probably too high for most sliders, but the model is sensitive to that one in particular.

Also, we see you are using the same slider values in relative to auto for both nyx-1 and nyx-3. This is probably not the optimal setting for both models, in general one should tweak values for each model individually. Even in manual mode, a slider value of 50 for one model may denoise more or less than the same value in another model.

I’m also noticing the blurryness. Looks like a downgrade compared to the original image

I think it’s an issue of all denoising technology, it is not limited to Nyx v3 I saw it also with Nyx Fast, Nyx v1 and Neat video. I was wondering if there is an AI that knows how to spot the “noise dots” themselves and remove them instead of brushing the entire frame with some anti noise paint

Can you show a screenshot and setting used? I’m curious what you mean. I agree that denoising in general tends to make grainy textures less detailed, but it doesn’t make everything look more blurry to me.

Thank you for posting a source image comparison. Nyx 3 looks much better, knowing how sharp the source was. The colors also appear to be closer to the source, than Nyx 2.

We’d be happy to look into this blurriness issue if you’d like to send us a short source clip where you see it.

Nevermind
was probably compared to the nyx v2 like in the screenshots
