You’ll still get access, don’t worry
This is a problem guys. So for a couple of days now I have to deal with this… The presets are in the way, and they cannot be hidden.
My solution to hide it is to click on the Presets down arrow select “Your presets”
in which case I m getting the more manageable:
A switch to “activate-deactivate” the preset panel is probably the easiest solution.
A way to edit the presets (e.g. delete presets that you never need or modify them and perhaps a “reset to defaults” option would be nice).
It is very similar for the models. I use models X, Y a nd Z… those “favorited” should be there… all the others are just clutter. I want to have them but not always in the way. So something like everything in a drop down EXCEPT favorite models that are in the cube form there would be nice.
Now this next thing is a very secondary issue, but for someone like me who has used these models to death, I do not even need a description. But for someone new to the software the tooltips are barely enough to convey any nuance. You need visual examples (so for example the cubes could have a little “preview” eye on their right bottom corner - with an on off setting for that in the options! - where someone could see an example of what the model is good for.
This is not exactly bloat or feature creep. In my opinion, and judging from discussions on reddit and forums in general, most new people do not know where to start model wise. The footage matters and the choice of model - never mind the settings - can get overwhelming.
But of course this is for the newcomer… for the more veterans among us what matters is the ability to not have to battle changes in the UI every other update, (it kind of happens
) and of course improvements to the actual models which is obviously the hardest part but also the most exciting.
Finally I do not know if you are aware but LLMs are pretty good (well ok not pretty good but semi-competent) at suggesting model and model settings if you describe the footage source format, codec and show them a screenshot or two. But do not go ahead and throw an LLM there that looks at people’s videos which is a privacy/confidentiality nightmare. Just be aware that LLMing the process for discovering appropriate model and decent settings is an option.
I’ll second the deactivate presets request. I’ve never had good results using the canned presets, and have never found a settings configuration that worked broadly enough for me to want to save it as a new preset.
I’d also like to see the return of the dropdown list for model selection. The current grid of small, blank icons is even more useless than the carousel was.
My opinion is to just revert back to the previous UI which was 100% easier than this one.
I’ve been testing and using Sharp in this beta version and have been using only sharp. I decided to see if I can download all of the models in the Model Manager today to see if the bug was fixed since a couple of the models kept throwing errors for quite a long time. I was able to download all of the models with no errors.
It looks like the Model Manager is fixed (in this beta). Thanks!
I confirm that this is a bug specific to version BETA 7.2; with the latest stable version (7.1.3), this problem does not occur: as it should be, with the program just opened (without any video selected), GPU and CPU usage is zero, while on the BETA version it is constant at 7% CPU and even GPU, while the program is (theoretically) doing nothing! ![]()
Please resolve this significant issue as soon as possible!

I’m not seeing this here. 7.2.0.1 beta and 7.1.3 release builds are both showing variable CPU and GPU activity in the 1%-4% range during app startup settling down to idle after about 10 secs.
I had an apparent crash a couple of weeks ago while running a series of 11 SLM renders that took nearly a month to complete. I was away from home for several days when it happened, and don’t know the reason for the crash. I suspect a forced Windows update, but can’t provide evidence.
That’s why I have Windows 11 Pro. (Bought a CD key on one of those sites that sells them for like 25-35 dollars.) You can use the group policy editor to change the updates to only install when you click the install button.
I can’t prove that it was an Windows update, but it did seem to happen around Patch Tuesday. We went out of town and I’d forgotten to put updates on hold during an expected prolonged render, so that’s very possibly what happened.
My new 5070TI and Video AI have run nearly a month continuously with only this one hiccup. I’m very pleased with both, even if I wish it could get done more quickly!
Yes, I mentioned this about a week ago, but w/out the screenshot and so many words! ![]()
One problem I am getting with the beta is if I choose to export - using the “export as” button - it brings up a dialogue which asks what output settings you want and you can speficy the destination. When I press ok on this dialogue another box pops up asking me where the file should go. So I have to choose the destination twice. Obviously if I had chosen the destination already it should not ask again.
I also think this would be the easiest way to solve the UI issues. The previous UI was… good ![]()
I am getting on OK with this interface myself apart from the things mentioned above.
- The export stuff has to be a bug. I am also getting a problem where, once I have chosen a codec for a file, if a try to make it again I cannot seem to change the codec.
- The preset list is just taking up too much space.
- Sometimes I have a problem when opening Topaz that it wants to open an old project but hangs (I wish there was the option to open an empty project every time).
- I have to go into task manager to shut the beta version down. It won’t close on its own.
lol. Yeah, I see we came up with the same solution, and the solution that everybody must have come up with I would bet. It is not obvious why this UI choice was made.
Also, please, please, please, please, please! Let me full screen the preview when I’m exporting! I want to be able to see the video as big as possible so I can compare, instead of being limited by a tiny window and needing to zoom in. Keep the zoom, that’s great, but please let me full screen or maximize the video so that everything else goes away. Let me completely collapse the bottom export bar.
Hey Dakota.
One problem with the beta.
I only have one seat available now with pro? I use topaz across three computers, but my license usually allows for (2) users … With the new beta tester access, I am happy to have “pro” – However, I only have (1 ) seat available now.. So I can only use it on one computer at a time?
Again, grateful for the access and ability to help, but especially when testing, I need to be able to run topaz on multiple machines or I’ll never get anything done.
Has anyone else experienced the program closing and reopening by itself? Or the program closing and then not reopening at all
Edit: Nevermind, I had to log out of the app and log back in.
Did you get a license for pro for beta testing? I still haven’t received one and I filled out both surveys with useful feedback. (And I have auto-renew enabled).
Saw this just now. Maybe a dumb question but: where can I see the request ID?
