Topaz Video AI 5.5 crashing (ffmpeg.exe running multiple instances post-crash, too)

Hi! Not sure if others are having this problem, but how can I restart Topaz without it continuing where it left off?

Here’s the scoop: I downloaded v5.5 and am loving the new features (thanks!!). So, I had set up my new AI Preset, did a test render, did a happy hamster dance, loaded in a bunch of videos to upscale, hit ctrl-A them all, set them all to the Preset, and the Preset didn’t reset like how it used to (woohoo!).

I then started the rendering and switched to another computer… I didn’t see Topaz quietly halting in the background until checking in later. I stopped it…

Restarting Topaz, it’s also trying to continue where it left off. The result is a crashing loop and I don’t know how to get out of it, how to restart Topaz in a way that will not continue where it had left off.

I tried this a third time, it continued where it had left off. I then looked up task manager, which shows 4 instances of ffmpeg.exe running - even after Topaz closed. The funny thing is, the maximum render tasks I have set is 2, so ffmpeg isn’t closing when Topaz crashes. So I ended every ffmpeg task and restarted. It still tries to continue where it left off. With 550GB disk space free, I don’t think there’s an out of space issue. But just getting Topaz to start without continuing where it left off would be great.

Thanks!

Weird update: I rebooted the PC, went back into Topaz, and the main screen didn’t go into “not responding”, so I quickly went to close all imports from the import pane on the left, which then stopped all processing when I clicked ok to close all open imports and currently processing files. Note that the “Export” queue list with statuses was not showing up.

I exited then restarted, then reloaded half the imports (12 instead of 25). Now processing the batch (crtl-A followed by clicking the icon in the lower-right corner showing the box with up-arrow.) Everything looks solid so far with no other anomalies. Not sure why the system had frozen up and acting weird, with reboot and closing inputs getting around the problem.

Would you still want a Topaz AI log including these recent events?

I’ll follow up tomorrow, but am thinking the main issue is worked around.

I have the problem where Video AI 5.5 is crashing with no notice but ffmpeg is still running, preventing access to the files which were in process. I was only running a batch of two files at the time, which appeared to start processing simultaneously OK. I did run a video player during the processing. I don’t think the CPU should be running 100% all the time because the “hand off” to other programs needing processing may be causing the crash. I did not have this problem in previous versions.

Hi,

I have the same issue with v. 5.5.1 since today. Working with the product since Black Friday and didn’t have any issue at all. It worked fine before installing the latest 5.5.1 patch earlier today.

I’ve checked and tried several things but in all case, when I launch a render, the app crashed.

I uninstall and reinstall it without installing the 5.5.1 patch, same issue. The GUI close, the CPU + GPU run at full speed and the process is “ffmpeg.exe”.

The thing is that it might be the custom preset since it’s when I select a specific one that cause the crash. Very odd.
