Topaz Video AI 5.4

Horrifically so. For me, the breakage is in the ‘blotching’ that occurs when you try and upscale a cropped source. Topaz advertises with 8x upscal even. And yet a cropped 1080p source to 4k, without black bars, already causes the dreaded blotching (which I think is just a memory overflow of some kind).

You’re going to have to circle and detail exactly what is wrong with it. It looks fine to me.

This is the first time I get a completely black screen during playback. I load a clip: MP4 (sdr), MOV (cineform), MOV (Prores), etc… Always a black screen. TVAI Encode, generates a preview (read from external player=ok) : it does everything but when I want to do a simple playback: black screen whether with a single screen or 2 screens… well: I go back to the previous version.

Hello.

Have you sampled Hyperion yet?

I ask because one of the most requested features (for years) but so far, Hyperion’s feedback is soft in here.

Hello,

Sorry,

No, I haven’t had time to test. If I need to do an HDR, I do it with Davinci Resolve which gives me all the necessary metadata and I can directly view the result with a BMD card and an HDR screen. I don’t have an HDR screen connected to my RTX4090. I’ll test later.
My current problem of all-black display occurs with any enhancement (?)

Yeah, DR & Premiere are my go-tos as well (only streaming services HDR / DoVi [p8]… fake DoVi).

I reinstalled version 5.3.6 and everything works fine again.
I didn’t understand the problem with 5.4.0 (?). No idea.
It’s not too serious for now because I use TVAI to restore VHS, SHVS and Super 8. For others it’s not same.

I’m waiting for the next functional version to see.

Waiting for a possible Black Friday deal on Davinci Resolve.

Another black screen when previewing in the internal player, on Windows 10, here.

Have tried changing processor from RTX 4090 to CPU, changing display settings, unplugging display cable and even switching ports…same issue. It is def a bug/problem with this player they rolled out.

Looks like I’ll be going backwards until they come out with a fix.

Did someone revalidate old model version outputs. iris1/proteusv3. It delivers completely diffrent output now. Version 5.4 is seriously broken.

That is why I am still on 5.4.0.8a

So Topaz Video AI is still buggy and slow as hell on a 4090? Good to know! :upside_down_face:

No, it’s pretty fast on a RTX 4090, Just that Preview is now even more broken than it already was (they went from showing black bars to an entire black screen).

What is up with the frame rate? I have to output to 60fps, anything below that is extremely choppy. What gives?

Did I miss something, where did the pause for exports go to?

This is such a horrible release. I have rerun some of my older enhancements with the exact same presets and this freaking version delivers completely different outputs even on the same model. There are so many artifacts, overstretched contrasts with fake dittery shrapness it’s almost looks like paper print. In one word horrible. The sutle enhancements with irisV1 and proteusV3 is completely gone.

do you also notice an improvement in contrast try last filter runs over it which is most a worseing it? There things happen that shouldn’t be, also implement teeth or eyes who has nothing todo with you’re source

In fact, it doesn’t make much sense to repair the current video, because he can’t really repair the low-resolution video, and he can really repair it into high-definition 4K or 8K lossless amplified video. In fact, what everyone wants is a tool that can really repair the super-low-quality video. For example, the real meaning of software development is that the 320*240 video can be repaired into high-definition. Only by repairing every detail clearly and naturally can we get it. It may not be necessary to set up so many complicated models.

I tried Hyperion… it’s no good. Totally messes up the levels, colors, and contrast. It’s useless and unpredictable. It takes a hammer to your video and smashes it to pieces. Adjustments are much better done in Avisynth+, Vdub2, Resolve Studio, Vegas, Premiere, etc.
