Topaz Video AI 5.2.0.1.rhea (New enhancement model: Rhea)

Hi everyone,

Today we have an early alpha of our next Enhancement model, Rhea.

5.2.0.1.rhea

  • Fixes ghost/haze artifacts.

5.2.0.0.rhea

Rhea represents a combination of Proteus and Iris. The model is intended to be more accurate in preserving fine details than Iris, while also handling text in a less destructive way.

There are a few key limitations for this alpha that testers should know about:

  • Rhea currently only runs at 4x scale. Previews/exports set to other output sizes will fail.
  • The current version of the model is not fully optimized and speeds of this alpha are not representative of speeds users can expect when Rhea is released.

We’re very excited to have testers working with Rhea. Thanks as always for your feedback and testing.

When I set the destination folder in the Preferences there is no path shown and also no visible change after selecting a path so that it is not clear if the choosen path is taken by the application or not.

Is it possible to have beta versions run alongside the release version?

Yes, alphas and betas have separate installations from the release versions.

That’s good but I would have preferred, like all of us, updates from old models like Artemis, Gaia, Theia, wouldn’t it?

Nice one… really curious how this model will do 480p (the example of the guy in glasses looks promising)

@tony.topazlabs does it work in combination with Aion?

Maybe it’s due to the image being a JPEG, but I still see a lot of blocky compression in the after image…

On my side it doesn’t work even if I select scalex4 in the second enhancement, it fails all the time. So on my side, it doesn’t work.

thats the forum.

Any image uploaded to the forum are not representative for any output quality.

Dont use second enh. Just use 4x

Did some testing. In my case the result are worse than Iris MQ. Iris creates more detail. Rhea softens the image more. Hair, eye lashes, lips etc are more detailed with Iris

1280 x 4 = 5120px

You did output at 1080p. and use it two times, as a first and second enhancement.

I don’t understand, please send a screenshot

He’s really bad like a model?

Use it as a single filter at 4x.

Iris MQ still the better model for decent quality SD (640x480) content imo

Manual setting both set to same values. RD= 100%

Going to test some low quality 240, 480p, 720 & 1080p

Hard to tell.

Iris seems more average in the contrasts but has little more detail.

Rhea has stronger lines and to me it looks like a highpass sharpening in PS.

I just find it a shame that we can run this model simply in 4x upscale and not the others, a shame to have limited on the resolution. After that it’s my opinion, but seeing the result with this model, there is still a lot of work to do on it, because a lot of artifacts on the images that we see moving. It would be good not to modify the parameters of this model like proteus and iris, for this model it would be good to do like the old Artemis, without being able to modify the parameters.

Rhea seems to be doing a much better job preserving the details like the piercings which are weirdly blurred in iris
