I would think so too. So the question is, did any of the people having this problem with the release test the beta, and has anyone who ran the beta and did not have the problem tried the release yet?
Well, essentially they are saying the quiet part out loud, because Topaz has been heavily criticizes for a while now of releasing beta products or even pre-beta as final release and charging users for the privelage of actually being beta testers. Now they are doing the same, only saying everyone is beta tester, except pro licensee buyers who will pay for the extra privelage of being the same. Topaz really needs to be re-organized internally and start taking this beta thing seriously.
What evidence do you have for this? Slomo (interpolation including frame rate change) is one of the ORIGINAL features of TVAI, is important for many, and should continue to be developed.
Otherwise yes, the original features should continue to be worked on or many original users will just… leave. Too many TVAI bells and whistles are available and better done in other long standing (and often cheaper) video software.
And now, what the heck? TVAI Pro as well? What on earth do they think they are doing? Crazy. I’ve seen nothing of value to me added to TVAI for at least half a year, other than the perpetual bug fixes. Plenty’s been done that’s detrimental though, to be precise the instant dumping of bug fixes, discussion of (and I assume support) for all versions except the current (usually buggy) one. It is unlike most commercial video software development and an unfriendly system for consumers. I hope they will eventually learn the error of their ways.
I wonder how many people are actually using slow motion, as opposed to those using interpolation to increase framerate at normal play speed. One way or the other though, my guess is that issues reported with slow motion are mostly interpolation issues rather than the change in playback fps.
To avoid every opening to load the previous file and to press “close all inputs” every time is in the preferences is it possible to put the option to avoid opening the last file?
Thanks
Completely agree, there is now some cheaper AI software that is catching up and now over taking TVAI and these guys needs to work more on better models.
VideoProc can potentially be very good, I use it occasionally and I notice that it has gone the AI way very significantly (the new version is 7 now). Similarly HitPaw Edimakor. It depends on what one needs it for, each of the programs lacks something, something should be improved. For me, stabilization is primary (because of the necessary strong zoom-in when shooting animals and birds without a tripod). In this, for example (and not only) HitPaw has improved a lot. But I’m just an amateur, professionals certainly have significantly different additional requirements. I expected more from Topaz Video AI, but it seems to have taken (from my point of view!) a complicated path and the stabilization there is no wonder. Well, everyone can see it differently, of course. I don’t know if I’ll keep updating/upgrading Topaz Video AI, I feel like it might end up like Topaz Photo AI v.2.4 and beyond, and for its price it’s not very beneficial to me. When I read the complaints about the new updates…
I’ve got the exact same opinion
Topaz is more tunable, giving users to handle what’s happening, but Videoproc did so huge step ahead with Gen detail v1 and v2 in a so short time, that is outsanding.
Also don’t forget Videoproc is 25$ for life, your is 300$ + 150$ year extend. Customers expect the same ratio, they invested in.
Also Topaz lack of serious H265 standards handling, staying with "low, “medium” or “high” with dynamic (we suppose ABR/VBR by this term) and giving “Main”, “Main10” or "High profile is not possible …
CBR is also so much shortcuted, “give bitrate and run away”
No Level, no Tier, no quantizer, nothing but “hope it will be fine” … This is Topaz dudes, not “noob” DVDFab
Many codecs give the hand on how to tune H265 → getting a High profile @ 6.2 is just not reasonnable for a 4K video @ 25 Mbps
My Nvidia SHIELD, one of the most powerfull decoder is almost dying with such profile
So do please the majors improvements expected and without Elon’s time clock
The best thing that can happen for a user like me is a Linux release, to unlish the full power of AMD architecture and multi-GPU support. It is years knwon that Windows is crap for this.
Most powerfull workstation for studios are Threadripper/UNIX-Linux, an easy way to go from 0.5 fps at encoding to 50 fps
→ Windows : 8 GPU at most
→ Linux : no limit
VideoProc has really taken a big leap for the better. I installed version 7 today and I am pleasantly surprised. It is more or less sufficient for my current needs, although some things must be done in another program if necessary. But VideoProc’s interim development gave me confidence.
With Topaz VAI, I’m not entirely sure if I’d (not) waste money unnecessarily. VideoProc 7 lifetime license for 1 PC is now $45.95 (I have it from some previous version 6, I think it was cheaper there). I don’t want to advertise VideoProc here, I’d rather cheer for Topaz Video AI (when it cost me so much money), but I’m interested in my needs (including what I get for my money), not Topaz’s. I stopped trusting both TPAI and TVAI, which is a pitty (because both TPAI and TVAI are really more tunable), and so far I’m happy with TGAI v. 7.x.
When I start exporting it first looks like if nothing happens. It takes a few moments after it starts working but even then I don’t see the export in the export info line until I switch between the preview and export line before.
Many of us just want simplicity - and getting to say 90% of the quality ultimately possible with time-consuming (for us) tweaking of other models is just fine. Even the limited export options isn’t an issue for me, I just export at high bitrate if necessary and convert in another program.
Like the simple early versions when it was VEAI 2.x and TVAI 3.x. Then, we’d just use Artemis L M or H or default other model for most things, the 4-way comparison tool letting us pick the best one for the job. Or just interpolate. I still use them for most things to this day but they lack that brilliant comparison tool, annoying. Still, the original models are mostly just fine for me, much quicker to get to a result too (leaving aside actual conversion speed).
The original simplicity is being steadily eroded and frankly, it’s something Topaz seem to have lost sight of. Other programs are now appearing that have that simplicity - and at lower cost. Topaz might benefit if they take note of that. Maybe it’s why they are now doing a Pro version, who knows?
Chase yes there are. Would be nice to get a Nyx Fast and Iris combo model where is it 60% to 65% Nyx Fast and the rest is Iris. Then you could have switches for Nyx Mid and high for the amount of the model Iris off Low Mid for the amount of the model.
Outing a 1080p to 2160 at High profile 6.2, 8bits depth color, no HDR, 23.976 fps : A pure non sense
They allready give simplicity with “Auto” mode for user like you, but elsecase, others would be very pleased to fin tune what it has to be
