Topaz Studio | Transition Questions

You can continue to use the amazing AI models in our perpetual license of course, but there are new AI models which will only be available in the Studio versions of our products. You’ll have access to those models for the length of your active license.

There’s two rounds of emails that went out - you can check this website for more information on your specific account:

You should get access to the new Topaz Photo studio version as well until January 2026, along with of course keeping your Photo AI perpetual license. Photo AI will continue to be updated for compatibility, but new AI models and capabilities will come to Topaz Photo.

Yes I understand that, but you are still robbing me of my “unlimited upgrades” that I have paid for until mid February as I will not get to enjoy them after that date.

A turd is a turd, no matter how much perfume you spray on top of it, and a broken agreement will still be a broken agreement no matter how you try to twist it.

Yeah we’ll make sure you will continue to be able to use this model on your latest OS. For example there’s a major Mac OS update coming which we’ll be ensuring compatibility for across all apps including Photo AI perpetual.

You’ll still get access to new features inside of Topaz Photo (studio version) and Topaz Gigapixel (studio version), but you would have to maintain an active license past your upgrade renewal date.

The current features and capabilities of the software that you purchased with a perpetual license will still be available to you even with an elapsed license.

You can still try out the new features of the Studio versions at no extra cost for the length of your license.

It will install in a separate directory so you can keep the old version around.

Despite owning everything Topaz has ever produced, and having current licences for all three current products, I don’t have auto renewal on for any of them. In addition, I haven’t received any email about this - how does it affect me?

Feels like another kick in the teeth from Topaz.

I feel somebody is really missing the point here,as well as missing the difference between the expressions update and upgrade. Ida already made it quite clear that a perpetual owner will not have access to for example the upcoming 8.5 (providing it happens after September 16th) if he chooses to leave after his current subscription runs out. Was that wrong?

I’m not interested in knowing all the bells and whistles that the new Studio brings, I just want someone to give me upgrades (as well as updates) until my current pre-studio subscription runs out. I want what I paid for. Nothing more, nothing less.

Edit: it really doesn’t seem like we’re getting anywhere from here so I’ll drop out of this conversation with the hopes of someone having a chat with legal counsel about it. I’m done.

It sure does! Yeah you’ll also get to try them when Studio launches, you’ll have both versions of the apps.

Are they active licenses? If they’re active I believe you should be getting Studio from the sound of it.

Check out this page:

Yes, all three are active (that’s what I meant by current). Elsewhere you say auto-renewal has to be on.

You will be able to try those new features @Left_The_Building - but they’ll be in our new Studio app architecture. You’ll get free access to them for the length of your license window. The legacy versions of the apps will also receive minor updates, but we won’t be adding new AI models to them. There are also features like unlimited image cloud rendering for example which won’t be offered in the legacy versions of the apps, but you can still use credits.

You’ll be getting access to the new AI models from Topaz Gigapixel (studio version) when it releases and you’ll also be able to keep your perpetual license version of the app. It will install in two directories.

Nice! Yeah you’ll be getting access to Topaz Gigapixel (studio version) as well then, in addition to Bloom and more.

Studio versions will install into a new directory, and you can run them alongside the non-Studio versions of the app. This way you can try out the new features and keep your perpetual version around.

I’ll hope for the best.

The unlimited cloud rendering for images was the main aspects I liked at face value, until realising it’s for non-batch.

I understand preventing people uploading a bazillion batch images. But for reasonable usage, not allowing batch processing is sort of a lazy implementation of rate-limiting imo and would just make things needlessly tedious.

Maybe there could at least be a monthly batch processing limit? Then if that limit is exhausted, only allow non-batch processing until the next month.

Yeah let me know what that web page says @BlackCat55. Auto-renewal does not need to be enabled, but it’s a good idea to do so and make sure your subscription doesn’t expire prior to the launch date. From what you’re saying you should get Studio access.

We didn’t purchase “software with a perpetual license”. We paid for software with a perpetual license including all updates within the subscription period, which I think everyone expected to keep the updated app in a state of perpetual usability. New models for perpetual use have always been part of the subscription plans. Restricting new model usage to the subscription period unless paid for additionally should be called out as what it is: A scam to those with a running subscription.

Good thoughts @gpu. Actually you will be able to do batch in Topaz Gigapixel (some reasonable limits will apply), but we’re talking hundreds or thousands of images. We’ll be monitoring usage here to make sure our GPUs don’t melt, but that’s the intention.
