Topaz Photo AI v3.2.0

Thanks. Now it seems to work. Finally!

Win 11. Desktop & Ps Plugin.

Install went much faster than recent releases. It was great!

Ps plugin File > Automate PAI opened Ps Stamp Layer okay with no error msg in this rel.

My Sharpening models donā€™t seem to be holding my typical slider placement positions as defaultsā€¦ But Iā€™ll keep an eye on it. And, darn it, the placeholder model descriptions for the latest two models got replaced!

:woman_genie: Now wishing for Comparison View.

Thank you, Dakota.

Iā€™ll hope this will be fixed as soon as possible.

At the moment I can hardly use PhotoAI for sharpening because it leads to results that are difficult to predict. It is very difficult and requires unnecessary effort to remove the color shift after sharpening.

Still a white Window at Start and it wont start. Please fix it !
Complete Reinstall doesnt work for me.

Constant crashes when using Denoise. (Apple M2 Pro)

I agree that the wording is, at best, ā€œinteresting,ā€ but it does work, and I did re-up for another year. It would be nice to see some comparison views of the different sharpening models (like the old 4-window denoise), but that would probably mean I need a faster PC, too.

Just tried C1 in session mode using ā€œProcess with Photo AIā€.
DNG sent to Photo AI and then sent back to C1.
Image showed up in session OK. I had to manually apply C1ā€™s lens corrections but thatā€™s expected.

If you are using catalogue you need to refresh/sync.

Can you provide logs to help us look into this issue? Thanks so much

Nice update @dakota.wixom

Any information on Snapdragon ARM support? A lot of users like myself are stuck in pergutory at the moment and nothing but silence from Topaz thus far

Got a colour change/loss of saturation I donā€™t like sending a dng from Capture One.

Win 11 Pro desktop PC. PAI Ps Plugin (via File > Automate). Processor = AMD RX6800 XT.

Topaz (Dakota, Lingyu, Anthony): Q: Is it possible for our PAI outputs (sent back to our Ps layer stack) to be exported with a Layer Mask?

Iā€™ll attach a snip of my original image (as it looked when sent to PAI) and the output from PAI that was saved back to Ps (after I Denoised all and Sharpened using the Std Model - which was the best that I could tell w/out having a visual comparison view). Youā€™ll see the output snip has halo-ing around the edges of the dunes. When I lowered the sharpening the rest of the image wasnā€™t where I wanted it detail-wise.

If I could get a mask sent from PAI I could use the Ps Smudge Tool on the mask to nudge that halo in so itā€™s no longer visible and still retain the other enhancements I made to the image to denoise and sharpen it.

Thx.

Hmm. More models.

In practice, although very fast, none are as good as the old Sharpen AI 4.1 were. Iā€™ll stick to that - the only use I have for Photo AI is the object removal, which is very good.

Of the many advancements Topaz Labs has been able to achieve over all these many years, eliminating oversharpening halos has never been one of them. I canā€™t tell if they donā€™t care and never tried, or tried, failed, and gave up.

My go to halo free sharpening method is still a simple Local Contrast Enhancement with good old Unsharp Mask set at 20% with a 30 pixel radius and a Threshold of 0. (Alternative settings are 12%, 66, 0 for medium sharpening, or 3%, 100, 0 for light)

At least part of this may be related to how C1 exports dngā€™s. Any styles or icc profiles applied to the arw in C1 arenā€™t included in the dng and are not automatically reapplied from the original arw to the new dng. C1 likes to export dngā€™s as very plain/close to original files. Thatā€™s apparently just how they do things. If you havenā€™t tried applying styles/profiles from the arw to the dng, see if that helps.

As an aside, I have one arw thatā€™s almost blown out in one spot and which is totally blown out in the C1-created dng. I havenā€™t played too much with other arw converters, but C1ā€™s dngs arenā€™t perfect. So part of the problem here is with C1 and not TPAI. In the early days of Sony a6700 support (early 2024), C1 (but not ACR) completely mangled the white balance when exporting to dng (I sent in a bug report and they fixed it, but if youā€™re seeing real color shifts in C1, make a report to them - theyā€™ve had white balance issues with new cameras).

Thx Andy! Iā€™ll give that a try.

I already followed earlier sharpening recommendations of yours and created Ps Actions for 3 tiers of sharpening using Unsharp Mask (in Photoshop). I use them regularly now!

I hate (not really!) to ā€œgo backā€ (so to speak - too much watching of DNC last wk) to the howā€™s and whereforeā€™s of the ā€œclassicā€ Topaz products (that I loved for their creative tools and efficiency + effectiveness), but a lot of those earlier tools didnā€™t create halos when applied. What comes readily to mind are some of the looks I used to create with Topaz Adjust (but I had the full suite of products). All those classic image development tools had lots of sliders that would granularly let users (manually) adjust looks across a spectrum of parameters to personal taste beyond their wonderful, integrated , easy to compare view option presets. Those products were also respectful of edges for activated Edge Awareness when masking or applying fx ā€¦

Was there a fix to the issue with monochrome images coming from Lightroom via the edit in or plug in commands? I saw nothing in the changelog, and I wonā€™t be able to use Photo AI again unless itā€™s fixed.

this new lens blur v2 model is pretty good  Iā€™m trying to improve two or three old drawings that I donā€™t have anymore and that I had taken a photo of because I didnā€™t have a scanner, it improves quite a bit, Iā€™ve only tested it since this evening, if anyone knows how to improve and/or upscale a photo like that, please guide me!

I just have a drawing that I canā€™t seem to improveā€¦ can someone help me? thank you very much!

What do you mean by ā€œimproveā€?

What, specifically, do you want to change about your drawing(s)? Sharpness, contrast, size (larger or smaller by how much), etc. Your answer with criteria will help others to respond.

Itā€™s sorta like generally asking what is the ā€˜bestā€™ (fill in the blank type of product). B/c everyoneā€™s tastes can vary on what constitutes best.

BTW, I like your drawings!

Think you are right. If I use Iridient to make the dng and import that into Photo AI avoiding C1 all is good.

thanks  these are drawings that date from 2006 or 2007, in fact I rescan all my drawings in 600 pp at 6990 x 4950 or vice versa if they are vertical. the problem with these 3 or 4 drawings, I have it in photo but I no longer have the drawings, so I would like to enlarge them to 6990 x 4950 but at least improve them to hd even if I can stretch the image to a higher resolution later. the contrasts, I adjust at the end but what I am trying to do on these is possibly blur and improve the edges while keeping the appearance of the drawing anyway.
