PC running window 10. I have recently upgraded to both Topaz AI photo AI 2.0.1 and also Affinity Photo 2.2.0. Opening the plugin to Topaz from Affinity no long works. Plugin available from Affinity menu, looks like its going to work properly and then get the message “plug-in has crashed”
I have an older laptop running Windows 10, Affinity 2.2.0 and Topaz Photo AI 2.0.1. I just tested the combination with the new Affinity update and it ran and processed fine. I tested with a jpg and not a raw file.
No issues here either with Photo AI 2.0.1 and Affinity Photo 2.2.0.
No issues here either, are you using the MSIX installer version or the .EXE installer version of Affinity Photo 2.2.0?
Also check that you meet the technical requirements for Photo AI, if you click Help-> Support it will take you to the documents.
The RAW processing with linked images cannot be used. If you are using linked or embedded RAW layers in your image, you need to duplicate the layer and it needs to be rasterized first.
Thanks for reaching out. I had another user report this same issue. Please try following the instructions they shared to fix it.
Thank you all for your inputs. I am running .exe version of Affinity Photo 2.2.0.
Based on feedback I removed Affinity Photo 1.30. After I did this I completely removed Topaz Photo AI (incl config etc) and then reinstalled Affinity Photo AI 2.0.1. In Affinity the plug in being pointed to to is the one within the Topaz 2 directory.

Unfortunately the problem still remains. I am still seeing the “plug-in has crashed” message when attempting to open the Topaz plugin for a JPEG file.
Can you try deleting the current 8bf file and replacing it with a new one? You can get the new 8bf file from:
C:\Program Files\Topaz Labs LLC
There should be a new 8bf file in there.
I emplaced the .8BF file with the latest from your server and now things now work. Strange that this file did not get replaced after I removed the application (plus data and config) and then reload it. Thank you for your prompt help. John
Wonderful news, I’m glad to hear it’s working now.
I let my team know so they can check if the plugin is getting installed correctly.
Please reach out if you need anything else. Have a great day!
