Topaz Photo AI 1.3.9 fails to open files on M1 Macbook Pro 2021 OS X 13.4

I just upgraded today to 1.3.9 on MacBook Pro M1 model, 2021, OS X 13.4
Two major issues cripple the program:
Drag / drop functionality does not work - I get no error, the image does not load. Either TIF, JPG, PNG or PEF file.
Trying to directly open a file from the application itself results in either the file not opening, or the actual Photo AI application “shaking” and being locked up. Interestingly, closing the app works.
In essence, Photo AI is totally broken.
I have rebooted the Mac a few times. I will resort to running Sharpen & De Noise until you fix this.
Seriously, not sarcastically, this is a total failure of the application. It looks like there is a need for an ability to roll-back if updates don’t work if this is going to be a trend.

Can you please try the steps below and let me know if this behavior persists?

  1. Delete any/all versions of Topaz Photo AI from your Applications folder.
  2. Delete the plist files for Topaz Photo AI using instructions here and reboot your computer afterwards.
  3. Download the full installer from the Topaz Labs downloads page and follow the installer once more.

If this does not change this behavior, let me know and we can continue troubleshooting.

Thanks!

Preston,

Thank you for your follow up.

Indeed, I followed those steps and the problem went away for a short while. After logging off and back in the problem returned.

The symptoms were exactly as before.

Thank you!

I am having the same problem on an iMac. I am presently trying the re-install process as described here

Please try deleting the plist files without reinstalling the application as described in this article.
Topaz Photo AI Freezes on Importing Image (Mac)

Let me know if it’s working after doing this.

I did not try the deleting of the plist files without re-installing because I had already done both. However Topaz photo is now functioning

OK I downloaded the latest .10 update and solved my Mac problem.

Steps taken:

Used Clean-My-Mac to uninstall the app

Used the below procedure to remove the .plist files

Rebooted

Downloaded the full app from the primary site

Installed

Rebooted

Tested:

Re-authenticated, loaded a RAW image – no problem

Closed, logged out, rebooted (previous efforts led to failure after logout / rebooting with the earlier problematic version even after removing .plist files)

Logged in, launched app, loaded RAW image – yeah! No problem.

Logged out, rebooted, logged in, launched Parallels (some tools I use are Windows only, this is latest greatest Parallels)

Launched Photo AI

Loaded RAW file – both from app and drag & drop with no problem! (Celebratory yeah! Here)

Looking good. Thank you Topaz for a very timely fix for this very annoying problem. Having to go back to Sharpen, Giga, and DeNoise was a bummer.

I still use those tools for the 5% of images I just can’t get right in PhotoAI so it’s nice to have them, but even nicer to have the better workflow in PhotoAI.

I have the exact same problem. This is so annoying. And no I dont want to uninstall and re-instal a program. Please release an update for it. You broke my expensive software. Totally unacceptable.

Did you delete the “plist” file?
